Hi everyone,
I just wanted to create a poll to find out people's views on returning banned members and whether or not they should be given another chance.
I know some peoples views on this already, but what with what has been happening recently, I thought it would be good to discuss it.

Options:

Yes - regardless of what they have done in the past.

Yes (Conditional) - only if the offence was minor, e.g. not (Scamming, Trolling etc.)

No - regardless of what they have done, do not let them back.

If it is agreed that it should be conditional, then it could be a good idea to discuss what those conditions should be.

I say no, because when they come back, as often they do, they have lost their reps and need to start out all over again. That ought to help keep them from doing what they did to get banned in the first place again.

If they are considered for a ban, but allowed to stay, I'd take away their ability to build reps for at least three months, maybe longer. As well as hide all of their past reps until a probationary period of time has passed.

As someone who is still relatively new to the forum and unaware of the problems caused by the members that have been banned. I vote "yes conditionality " because ( like most people I imagine) people do make mistakes. Now a third and forth chance I'm not so sure about? We are all grown-ups here and should treat people as we would want to be treated. I realize there has to be a line somewhere. Those are my thoughts.

Please consider a "ban" is not really a ban, members just come back under a different name anyway. At least then, they have to rebuild. This last guy banned here came back and flooded the forum with trash, as well as p o r n o photo's, in his case why is he back?

I like the idea of a probation period for those you have committed minor offences. Maybe admin can look into that one. Almost like an active but frozen profile.
People do make mistakes, and can come back and improve on relations but I also know that this type of reformed behaviour is rare. Especially online, due to the 'masked' profiles.

I never did such thing. I have never scammed anyone or done anything like that let alone post p o r no's on a forum.
The only reason I am back is because I explained that when I came back I created a new account for a second chance well over a year and a half later and didn't realize that was breaking the terms of agreement. I told Alex. Then he banned me. I was trying to be honest about it. Avery understood that.

There are also temporary bans which can last a specific period of time, but really, I don't see those being effective either, not when you can just create a new account and keep on truckin.

I voted other. I feel like there should be a time limited ban option. Banned members need to have a tag, all rep reset to 0 or if they were negative needs to be left as such. There should always be a permaban for scam artists.

Limited ban option might be more effective, but if too long they will just make another member name. Some dork just made a nice little "U mad" GIF gift, no, I am not mad, actually I am happy USAbro was found. Quite the contrary, having my suspicions found out to be true validates my earlier complaints, I am quite satisfied but I really thought VG was doing all of the sock puppets. At this point, I disagree with letting him back in so quickly, if at all. But am I mad? Hell, I have bigger fish to fry than this kid, but that isn't going to stop me from commenting on this situation as a break from my normal day, a bit entertaining to me, perhaps too much so, allowing myself to be entertained by this behavior is probably not a good thing.

Now look at all the stupid newbie new account names we have showing up all of the sudden, this place is becoming more of a trolls kingdom than a sincere forum, I think I will take that nap I talked about earlier, let them eat themselves for troll food. Has anyone else noticed most of the sincere members have disappeared, one by one, until now only a few are still here? Probably due to both VG and USBbro both turning this place into some kind of cat and mouse forum, often acting like sincere newbies and asking questions, then to just disappear without another word while people are trying to help, or by starting threads which are objectionable to many of us putting the hobby in a bad light, no pun intended.

OK... I am going to come back in some period of weeks to months, after this all dies down far below the current level of BS.

I'm in favor of giving people a 2nd chance, however anyone who stole money by failing to deliver a sold item, or anyone causing others to get injured or demonstrating a lack of safety I think should be scrutinized the hardest, someone who had a tantrum and cursed out the forum is less of a problem as I see it. That's my 2 cents.

I don't see being banned from the forum as being that big of a punishment. 2nd chances should be a rare exception rather than a rule.

For most offenses they also already exist in the form of temporary, day, week, and even month long bans. Therefore voted no.

Yes, but dependent on the offense.
-Never if the offense was scamming or otherwise related to the BST section.
-Maybe if the offense was just flaming people or otherwise stirring up trouble. Sometimes people just go through a rough time in their lives and might take it out on forums and get banned over some bs.

Banned members are just banned from annoying the forum under their original screen name. Like an An Artist Formerly Named Prince. No is my vote. I have never been banned from a forum before so no pity. There will always be scammers and scumbags. They will come and go. Completely ignoring them is the only option, something I have failed to do on occasion. Let the mods moderate and clean up the trash. The trash just need attention since they fail at life, ignore them long enough and they might decide to brush their teeth with buckshot one morning.

Gotta keep in mind that some people get agitated by some things but depending on the person, self-control and judgement can be difficult after being agitated. I think the temp-ban for who knows how long (1 week, 1 month maybe) would let them cool down and look at things objectively to try to control themselves. If they're successful and start to get along with the community let them stay, if they really don't belong here then ban them. Just my take on it.

If a banned member was banned for financially stealing from
members here then they should NOT be allowed back until they
have made good with the members they cheated.

If it is a 1st or even 2nd minor banning offence I have no
problems letting them back in.... but only twice.

We already have a Ban system that seems to work. All we
need to do to make it a bit better is inform the mods of any
banned member that may be trying to create new accounts.

A banned member will give himself away by using the same
characteristic writing/tactics that got them banned in the
first place.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
