GREAT IDEA Dave!!  Her birthday is weekend of the 28th... what a wonderful suprise is going to be for her!  :D

I just know that is what SHE always wanted... a matching set of violet-blue lasers  ;)

I see it now . . .the two of you . . .walking hand-in-hand by the lake, . . . .shining your lasers into the water . . . . .watching the beams dance with each other under the surface . . . and watching the plants fluoresce.

from the looks of it almost all the drives have been bought up or the want 40+$ for the drive :'(

haha yup. I don't have much use for a 60mW. Maybe I'll make a labby for a spiro and make a pointer to sell with the other.
 
Anyone got a good guide or general tips for extracting the diode from the drive safely? I thought it would be a fairly straightforward procedure, but I keep reading things about people breaking them or whatever and I'd have to have completely wasted $23.
 
yeah you break the heatsink. Two pliers one on each side of the heatsink and break it apart.
 
I just got a call from the guy that bought the remaining $20 drives. Guess what he wanted? :) Be looking for a 'commercial' blu-ray laser that shoots many blu beams in a while.
