I'm curious why red uses 3 wavelengths.

Its a educated guess.
All other arrays are dual beam.
The array data sheet states (by far) higher divergence for red compared to G/B.
To my knowledge the most powerful single emitter red diode outputs 1,6W.
Red diodes drop power significantly at increased temperatures.
This array produces 2,5W/diode at 55°C

I would love being proven wrong though!


I would guess that the different red wavelength are for getting the right color space inside projectors. You want the red to be deep to get good color but also want it to be as low wavelength as possible to get good brightness. 639nm is roughly 1,5x as bright to us humans as 647nm. But 639nm is also kind of orangish and not deep red. (which you need for REC2020)
All the other wavelengths are also matched to the REC2020 colorspace.

I had to drive 2 hours to get there and it was my first time. That store is pretty amazing! It's a good thing I didn't walk around with a shopping cart because I would be dead broke right now! :p
