Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

;)

Coherent 15W Argon-Ion LASER Innova 300 Class IV Ar

caveat emptor- 15W is an arbitrary max power value on a warning label which is meaningless in this case.
This particular unit (I-328) outputs 1W of UV: 0.36W of 363.8nm + 0.44W of 351.1nm - look around the middle of this page from coherent: [ref]

1W of CW UV for $1K is probably still a good deal if you're in the market for that kind of thing - but let's just keep the freely-made claims of ebay postings in healthy proportion

Must resist buying all HeNe lasers....

I know Sam is looking at that LYR-173. Simply because it's fiber coupled. Not worth it for the power. My 5mW LYR from Sam was $500 ;)

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I wish I had the extra dough to throw around with gas lasers. I think for now, however, that I need to continue working on my Diode and DPSS systems and then maybe once I have a significant number of those I will branch further out than my 633nm HeNe.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I don't have any room for those gas giants :( Love those different wavelengths though. You're ahead of me Issac. Bloom... you may need to seek help ;)

Actually you have a beautiful rainbow there

Thanks! Though I'm cutting myself off. A forceful rehab/intervention. It's gotten a little out of control... Though I'll be starting back up again come end of July/August. That's when I'll have more to add to my HeNe thread.

Glad you like them though :)

More on topic, my main eBay search is HeNe, followed by model numbers and stuff. I generally find deals on lonely 633 bare tubes, I just don't feel like eating em, so I'll post here.

I love gas lasers. I don't need a laser that burns or cuts cardboard. I just like the wavelengths, and seeing them.

Wannaburn, if you want a new HeNe, try getting a 20mW+ 633, or a 2nW+ GreeNe, either will be quite visually pleasing.

The meter in the head is more accurate than many commercial meters.

Or you can use any voltmeter between pins 8 and 22. The scale is 0.1V per mW.

Sorry for going OT here again but last night I fired up my ML argon again and did some tests. I used the built in meter read from the remote, my Extech 330 DMM measuring the above pins, and my 2.5w laserbee.

After letting the laser warm up for 10 minutes at idle the remote said 8.4mw, DMM .864v (8.64mw) and 6mw on the LB. After that something went wonky the laserbee. I'm 99.9% it was my doing (because it measured a couple of my pen lasers spot on) but after that its measurements weren't even close to past measurements done on the argon. On my next weekend off I'm going to set the argon up somewhere where I can position the LB so the beam is hitting the sensor dead center.

At 6A the remote said 40.2mw and the DMM showed 4.12v (41.2mw). I also did a test at full power (10A) and the but like a dummy forgot to note the values. IIRC the remote said 113.2mw an the DMM showed 11.6x v (116mw).
Those values are pretty close to the 108mw daguin metered it at when I bought it and I've metered it on my laserbee at between 106-110mw so the internal power meter on these argons seems to be pretty damned accurate.

Wannaburn, if you want a new HeNe, try getting a 20mW+ 633, or a 2nW+ GreeNe, either will be quite visually pleasing.

Where the heck do you find a 20mw HeNe? Both my reds are ~1mw. I'd love to get something in the 10-20+ range so I can actually see the dang beam without having to be looking directly down it at eye level in a pitch black room.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

It probably has to be multimode. But awaiting a response on this as I too am interested.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Both Uniphase and Melles Griot make 20mW+ 633nm HeNes. Most commonly on fleebay are the Uniphase 1144P/1145. For $200-300+....tube only. Try asking Sam, getting a tube+psu for $200. Fleebay high powered HeNes are over priced.

EDIT: Spectra Physics makes 40mW plus units as well. There's an SP-127 doing 41mW on fleebay for $1299 ;)

At 6A the remote said 40.2mw and the DMM showed 4.12v (41.2mw).

The remote will just be reading the voltage from the pins like your DMM. So your DMM has the more accurate value (assuming you paid more than $10 for it, anyway). The laserbee (or any thermal meter) is not going to be very accurate at low powers like that. Mostly because even something as benign as your finger gives off a few mW of heat and will throw off the sensor. The one in the head is optical, and is therefore immune to thermal fluctuations.

No disrespect, but don't buy those, like I said, very overpriced. You can get the same thing, with psu, for half the price, from Sam...

None taking Bloom. At least they are working and power tested unlike most I see on feebay. I did look at Sams site and didn't see any at half the price like those above?

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Email him. The one I'm getting doesn't have a back on it (the plastic ring is gone, no worries) for $100, plus the PSU for another $100.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

That Junktronix guy, Kevin, is a good guy. He is honest and is respected over on PL. His claims regarding output will be accurate. I wish I could say that for the bulk of the other sellers on eBay.

As Bloom has suggested, Sam will be the most reliable. His reputation has long been established.

For those who think gassers are high priced, they are. Mostly, in my opinion, because they have historically been overpriced and were expensive new. With that said, though, there isn't the demand for used gassers like there was before the big uptick in laser-diodes over the least decade. As such, if you are patient, the bargains are out there. It just takes time and patience.

I predict that gassers will bring really high prices, again some day. Working ones, anyway. Few are still being manufactured, anymore. In time, as the supply goes down, and the demand goes up for something old and organic, gassers will once again have their day.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

There are remotes that will show mW? Wait is that what it shows when the remote is in light mode? I don't have a manual for my 2500 and thought that was the power level on a 1-100% scale. Time to do some research.

Excuse me. I'll be in my bunk....

Well I could be wrong- but there is a number on mine that goes up right along with the Amps & although I did not know for a few years that it was the mW i*think* somebody told me that a while back- it is time to run my- ML and get some new Diff Grating photo so I wll do a power graph as IIRC I do not remember doing that since I got my Radiant X. I am going to be bummed if its not peaking at 145mW and that is too much as the auto shut down kicks in after about 5 min at 10A. scared the bejesus out of me the first time// - I try REAL hard to not do that anymore-

I looked but never found any 'owners manual' for the 2500 or 2505 I have both. NFS - nor is my ML. BUT I do have a few nice SLs I will let go cheap- PM for deatails& red henes too.

BUT check this asshat out!!

I know a guy that knows a guy that can beat that price-- Pm for his username....asap= he may be leaving town soon--ha ha
