Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Quite a few of the guys seem to like the style of the Streamlight "Stylus-Pro" pen lights for modding.
I found these "Elfeland" brand penlights today at Banggood; they come in a three pack for $10.99.
They are very similar in style to the Streamlight; I'm sure they're not of the same quality, but they don't look too bad, and for less than $4 each, you can't hardly go wrong. :yh:
One plus for these vs. the Streamlight is that the the front piece unscrews for an easier diode/module assembly.

I actually bid on this and was supposedly outbid, so if they are back on, I wouldn't trust this seller as far as i could throw him.

I think I've bid on these 4 times now and have been outbid 4 times. Twice for each the working unit and the broken/parts only unit.

The seller calls it a DPSS laser, but it looks like a FAP.

He's suggesting it be used for a DPSS pump.

That's what I am trying to decide, is it a ytterbium doped fiber laser or a fiber carried laser, it could be part of the seed pumps for a fiber laser system, he did say 12 amps at 5 volts with home CNC beam quality but I am afraid it's just the knife edged pumps, if they were fused biconic coupled pumps that would be fine and as good as a single emitter, it will need a lens but that should not be difficult so long as its not knife edged or bundled, if it has 4 x 7.5 watt pumps joined via fused biconic coupling then it's good to go.

Here's the part number result

It looks like one of the pumps for a Yb fiber laser - at least going by the others I've seen. Someone on PL just recently had a whole bunch to sell that all came from a Yb fiber laser.

Doesn't matter if it's knife-edged? If it's all dumped into the one fiber then you still get a nice round/homogeneous output.

More info in this thread: How can I fix (do it yourself) this IPG fiber laser?

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Looks like lots of diodes fibre combined as to a diode pumped fibre laser

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Thanks diachi, I have seen and even dreamed up that last part before the output fiber, I see the lens at the input and I suppose it does have a rear mirror and OC mirror, the walls would be double clad and refractive as well? What's that last part called and couldn't that be used with a bunch of blue lasers?

I think the bit you're talking about is just the fiber coupler, no OC mirror or anything. Just 3 LDs, some correction/focusing optics, knife edge mirrors and a fiber coupler.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

This is called a fiber coupler?
I see the beam shaping lenses upstream, I suppose there is a maximum angle of beam input?

Yes, you can see the cylindrical lenses used to correct for the large emitters and the knife edging into the optic coupler which is then transferred to a fiber optic cable. I don't think his price is especially good for this set up.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

was just on ebay and saw this from one of the sellers i had bought from before.

303 Prome Star Series Laser Pointer 2 in 1 Red Green Violet 450nm Blue Burning

the blue one is listed as 1mw but in the description is a link to the real power output of over 1w. doesnt seem too bad for 40$ with free shipping. let me know what you guys think. also, saw this grenade shaped host on youtube. anyone know where i can purchase one??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oPc9FI0Jo0

spectra-physics model 073 laser tube argon ion? [2*Q-23]

Cool old Spectra-Physics external mirror argon. I love glass bell argons, but unfortunately I have neither the time nor knowledge to get this thing working (I also have a fear of HV ).

Ooooh I love those old tubes with the glass cathode bell!

To be fair ... voltage on these isn't going to be all that high, 100VDC give or take. Starter pulse is HV right enough.

Wow. That thing has a Brewster window on it, too. What are the chances this old tube has any life left in it? $150.00 plus shipping seems a bit steep.

Yeah, external mirror is nice! Always wanted to get a couple ALC60 tubes, sit them end to end and run them both at the same time. Wonder how much power that'd make.

Getter looks rather on the white side to me... Generally not a good sign that the tube still works at all. Would be easier to see with a better picture mind you.

For anyone not aware, this is missing the cavity mirrors, you'd need to aquire those and mount them on mirror mounts to actually have any chance of this working.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Yeah, I noticed the mirrors missing. That would be a cool project if you had two of these that worked. You could theoretically place several end to end and then add the mirrors at a integer number of 488nm wavelengths and get them all to lase.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Good price on that 168 if it's working... Need 3 phase and water though. Would ask for pictures of the tube before even considering buying it.

As for the second one, yes, definitely an ALC60 whitelight. The Argon heads don't have the ballast tank on them. Looks nice and clean too.
