PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

All of these switches have one thing in common that others do not. That is a ground terminal. It is necessary to have a return path for the current through the LED. I had one actually short to this ground terminal once that took out a whole SMPS. That is rare, however. if the switch is a single pole single throw switch then you only need to wire your positive side to the input terminal and the out to that terminal and then the ground to the negative side of your supply. After that, every time you turn the switch on, the lED will light. Even with a single Li-ion battery as I have many of these and have done it.

any way you can make a ms paint diagram? i think i know what you mean but not positive. the switch i was looking at is a latching push button has 4 pins and all the videos on youtube are 5-6 pin. i wont actually be able to test the wiring untill the switch comes in next week

The switch I described only has three pins as it is the simplest example of this type of switch. It would be better if you show me the switch (photo) and I will tell you how to wire it. There are too many types to go into all of them. I'll be happy to do it for you. :D

yea, sure. heres the ebay link- Durable 12mm Elevated Push Button Blue Angel Eye LED Latching Switch Harness | eBay

the way i see it, positive to red, negative to black, and another positive to either the green or white wire depending on light mode?(on when pressed or off when pressed) is that correct? leaving one wire disconnected?

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

This is probably a double pole single throw switch. My guess is that the negative will go to black and the positive to red. Then you can pick between the other two as you switch out. If you have an ohmmeter it is easy, as you can just measure the leads that short when it is on. Too bad they just didn't give a schematic of it. Just make sure you identify the positive input wire. It will be the one that is also connected through the ground wire through the LED.

yea they should have given a diagram of it. i will have to mess around with it. most likely im just over thiking it. i have a feeling once i get it in my hands it will be easier to understand. then again, another issue i have is there is a high probability of me moving out of state within a few weeks, so this just got shoved to the bottom of my priority list.

Chances are there will be something on the bottom of the switch to identify the leads. Sorry to hear you are troubled about moving from Louisiana. I lived in New Orleans back in 1970. It was hot and humid and besides being the only southern town I could stand to be in, there are much better places to live. I have lived everywhere in this country and believe me there are better places.

That's a 12 volt switch which means the built in resistor for the led that illuminates the ring is designed for 12v, ( likely intended for the automotive market ) which means it's really intended for 12-14 volts for when the car is running and the alt is charging, but if you are running a 3 cell build it would be ok but with 2 x 3.7-4.2 v cells the ring may only light up dim if at all.

If you are using a case neutral diode such as the NUBM44 then make your case negative and connect the green along with your drivers negative input to your case then connect your red wire to the positive center of your battery springboard and the switches black wire goes to the drivers positive input.

When you push/latch the switch to close the circuit you will be connecting positive from your springboard center/red switch wire to the driver positive input through the switch black wire and also it will put positive through the internal resistor through the illumination led and it grounds to the case out the green, but simply test it first before you wire it up incase they mixed up the black and green.

----Edit----

Ok I see the white wire now, it was hiding, could be a double poll with one dedicated to the illumination led, just test it with your meter , but it may not light up on 2 cells as it is meant for automotive.

Thanks red, again, I will just have to wait until it arrives to find out. And yea, I'm moving from Louisiana to Colorado. I actually have to go drive up there within a few days to view the house I found. I hate being stuck in a car for 15hrs...

Where in Colorado? I lived in Pueblo, and suburbs of Denver, Lakewood, and Aurora. It is beautiful country and once you are settled in I think you will like it. Yeah, a 15 hour car drive is always difficult, but especially in the summer.

The house is in pueblo. My friends and I are going to drive up there tomorrow to view the property and get everything sorted out. The one thing I don't think we are ready for is the cold and snow. Lived in louisiana our whole lives xD

Interesting. I liked Pueblo, though Denver is better. It does snow there, some years more than others. What will you be doing there? It isn't a particularly diverse town, being 60% Hispanic last time I was there. Years ago the main economy of Pueblo was the mill, but it closed down many years ago. It is the site for the Federal government's mailing center for pamphlets about most everything.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I really don't know for sure what I will end up doing there. My friend/roommate is starting dog breeding (olde english bulldogge) and I'm currently helping him with that. It's just time for a change really. Can't stay in louisiana forever.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

No, I wouldn't either. Good luck and hope you enjoy the place. It will be hot this time of year, but not nearly as humid.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Thanks Paul! Back on topic a bit, I just got a reply from the seller of that switch, I asked for the length of the switch body to make sure it wouldn't be too long and the answer I got was very helpful "about an inch" :twak:

I guessed 30mm. Turns out it is 25mm, so not off by much. :) I don't suppose you asked for the diagram of the switch so you will know how to connect it? Still, it will probably be on the switch when you get it.
