PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Wonder how that one is hooked up, that's not a 25 pin parallel cable on there, it's 37 pin.

You Need a PCI slot for a special card:

As Alaskan pointed out, this can be a huge PITA because most modern computers only have PCIe.

Figured that'd be the case.

PCI is old now...? Jeez... Be thankful it isn't ISA? :D

If anyone needs a Mobo with PCI I think I have a couple lying around somewhere. :p

Not sure, but that connector might be for the Ocean Optics deuterium light source. It is necessary to run the samples through the spectrometer.

Don't calibration lights get connected optically via fiber?

It's not for calibration. It is used as a light source for Absorbance spectra. But, to answer your question, the fiber optic cable used with this spectrometer has four terminals on it. They are used for the spectrometer and the Deuterium light source as well as the sample in question. As I recall the light source is powered by the spectrometer. It has been awhile since I looked at one of these, but they are still used for this purpose.

New age scam?

Well of course it's a scam, but these pseudoscientific "cures" and whatnot have been around forever. The only difference is now these people can throw a lot of technical jargon in there so that people literally don't understand what they're buying (but hey, it has "quantum" "BioPhysics" "Alpha" and "Coherent Energy" in the name, so surely it will cure my electrosensitivity, right?).

I wasn't sure if you were testing the water to see if I believed this tripe :p Well, I don't know, but there appears to be a lot of low IQ people with money out there.

Yes, finally, at long last! Nice find.

Many possibilities for an effective and available interface with/for 589nm and 593.5nm, Alaskan. Grail level technical capability jump, not far away?

Low level application of new technology knowledge gained from studies of captured, very old/early ancient by today's and tomorrow's standards, alien technology captured by the government over the years declassified for technology transfer only very recently, with serious implications for a multitude of applications/uses in many fields from bullets to bandages/medical to military? :tinfoil:

But seriously see article: A General Introduction about Quantum Entanglement in Biophysics >>> http://www.physics.drexel.edu/~bob/Term_Reports/Zhou_Di.pdf

"Effectiveness of Product(s) - Quantum BioPhysics is constantly working to ensure we understand how the products we sell work. We use them first. During our personal usage, we have discovered that putting the products (pendants, wands, cards, etc.) in direct, unfiltered sun light outdoors for 3-4 hours, causes them to highly energize. Putting them indoors in front of windows will not work because almost all windows have sun filtering protection on them. With more testing and investigating, we have found that doing this every 3-4 months really helps keep them working at their optimal level. The products you purchase do keep their charge for a long, long time but it appears that adding this recharge routine keeps them energized at an optimum level. The products will still affect people differently. Do NOT leave them outside at night. The moon light has an opposite affect on them. It depletes their energy."

Lot of two working SP 155s

Lot Of Two SPECTRA PHYSICS HELIUM-NEON LASERS MODEL 155 BEAM WIDTH: 0.9mm | eBay

Melles Argon Laser:

MELLES GRIOT 400-A06 43 SERIES ION LASER 488NM | eBay

Melles Krypton (I think) Laser:

MELLES GRIOT 43 SERIES ION LASER 647MM 35-LRL-600-208 NICE | eBay

Melles DPSS head - I'll need to check the model numbers but I don't think this is 5W (Edit: This is the 2.5W model, seller is using the warning label value), probably just the warning label value. I have two controllers (+ umbilical cables) for these and two spare pumps. I have two KTPs too but the coatings don't look great to me... Also have TECs for these and some other components. If anyone happens to go for this and they need parts feel free to give me a shout.

Melles Griot 5 Watts 532nm Class 4 Laser model: 85-GHS-305 | eBay

To an extent and in part yes, this type of stuff but not exactly, certainly not in any absolute sense.
"Pseudoscience" is a relative term. Was not long ago that everyone on planet was positive the earth was flat scientifically and otheriwse as "common knowledge".

What we consider to be knowledge, scientific and otherwise, comes and goes --changes over time.

Think of what was known scientifically and otherwise 100 Years ago, 200 years ago, 500 years ago, 1000+ in the light of what we "know" today. At the speed of progress of een today where will most of what we think we "know" be--in 100 years--500 years and so on. What do we have, as a species, complete absolute final answers for and about today not counting just directions pointed at to investigate further tip of the icberg answers, but actual complete and total explainations/answers for and about?

The area of study that the "item/product" good, bad, or indifferent which Alaskan found is related to, is a large field of high level serious "scientific" research and investigation these days. Just a few examples:
See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_biology

See:Bioenergetic Membranes

See: Quantum physics meets genetic engineering | MIT News

What we don't know surely is several orders of magnitude (how many???) greater than what we imagine "know" or imagine we have actual complete real answers about/comprehension of.

The thing about science is that it is intrinsically a self-correcting mechanism. When something is proven incorrect, it is discarded, or at the very least reassessed. There is no emotion or "but I want that to be true" in true science. This means that, yes, a large portion of our current understanding of the universe will likely be proven incorrect at some point. This does not mean that something that hasn't been scientifically proven is necessarily true in any capacity.

The examples you've linked are legitimate research efforts, the $150 dichroic jar lid on eBay is a scam. "Quantum" has legitimate meaning, but it's also a buzzword (think "aerospace aluminum/military grade" for lasers).

You're absolutely right that "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence," but there have been loads of studies on alternative medicine practices, the vast majority of which turn up either nothing or a placebo effect.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

You're absolutely right that "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence,"

Wrong. I can think of countless examples where this doesn't hold up. Here are a couple.

"That man killed my wife and left her corpse in his trunk!"
"Objection, your honor; the investigators found nothing in his trunk."
"Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence!"

"That man shot me!"
"But the medical examiners found no bullet wound or other evidence of trauma"
"Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence!"

Absence of evidence IS evidence of absence if/when we expect to find evidence.
