PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

That's a far better price than just a few months ago. But, now we know they aren't 10 watt laser diodes they were touted to be.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

The terminology I used in big red capital letters was SPECULATED 9-10 watt as suggested by fellow members and a prudent suggestion it was.

That was based on the NUBM06 Block that was rated as 32w and that's not our overdriven number but the advertised number. ABarnette said he got 7.75watts from a NUBM06 if I remember correctly, so theoretically 9-10 could be possible with a block rated 12.5% higher.

The NUBM08e was advertised 12.5% higher at 36w per block not overdriven.

These advertise at 35w per block and are 08T rather than 08E but I don't think that means anything significant

So touted with the big red qualifier SPEECULTED, also every evolution so far has an increase in efficiency, however these are green shifted 445 to 455nm and I SPECULATE that perhaps the phosphor is more efficient when pumped with the green shifted laser, that would also explain the 465nm diodes we have seen, the green gap has been a problem for a long time, 520nm is much less efficient yet it is the spectrum we are most sensitive to and it is green light that blue pumped phosphor makes the most of, some units even pump phosphor to make the red and some use a LED.

It's possible that the green shift may be the way forward, but there is for now a slight drop in efficiency on the laser end but maybe otherwise on the phosphor end.

The 455nm vs 445nm was a factor not considered in my speculation, because until this green shift diode efficiency has always risen as well, so 12.5% plus the expected efficiency bump yielded a speculated overdriven output higher than reported with a lower rated block.

Unless these are not the way forward we may see more green shifted pump diodes, again I am speculating, but we did not buy any 1500 dollar blocks so horary for proceeding with caution as we had not tested, that was also a consideration.

------edit------

DTR now has these at the same price as the 44's and they are only slightly lower in output, but the color is to my eye more visible, divergence measures the same with G2 and 3 element lenses as the 44 at the same distances of course.

Of course phosphors evolve as well so future diodes could shift the other way, nothing is guaranteed, but a bump in color for now is aesthetically pleasing, more power per diode I expect will be the natural evolution over time, perhaps tomorrows more powerful diodes will be a more visible wavelength as well, we can hope, and even speculate.

My post wasn't meant as a slam against you or anyone else, for that matter. If my terminology caused you to feel that way, I apologize. I was only referring to the idea that these might be a 10 watt LD. Nothing personal, I assure you.

@ paul1598419 : It's all copacetic, this is just entertainment, the real troubles ahead are quite worrisome.

Not getting off topic, do the techhoods pulls look like hot pulls?
I think they have been cooked.

I'm not sure if this has been submitted yet:

Powerful 445nm Focus Visible Blue Beam Laser Pointer Pen Burn 5mW Adjustable New | eBay

This looks like a knockoff Rifle or double knockoff of an Arctic Spyder. I just bought one so we'll see what is what before power-on!

Comes with batteries (we'll see how good), lenses, case, and safety glasses, which I will probably destroy while wearing good ones.

These are going for $60-70 American tender, and it looks like the bid listings will cost you more than the buy-it-now. It also looks like there are other listings for this, but I've got the cheapest price listed above.

Hopefully this will be a good place to point the folks that don't want to pay top dollar just to work on a used unit, or like the DIY approach. (or other such circumstances)

Thanks for posting this!
This laser is in the popular "Thor" host. Unfortunately, since it's coming from a Chinese seller, it probably has an acrylic lens which will melt after prolonged use. This is also why it is less expensive.
Typically we recommend that folks purchase one that has "OPTICAL LENS" in the title, like this one. These have glass lenses that will not melt (and will transmit more power.)

:)

Yes, I had a feeling that something like this might occur. I have a glass 3-element spare that I will use if the lens winds up being plastic. I'll give a full teardown report here in a couple of weeks when it shows up.

These come up all the time and will again. I would like to see one with a copper heat sink instead of aluminum or brass. I have a few of these myself and make great lab style lasers.

Cool but at 11$ shipped it is a pretty good deal. Just wish it had a driver or PS of some sort. Im sure there will be more just sharing it.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

You can find drivers for these at the eBay sites that sell them. They are larger than what you find for a pointer, and some also have thermostatic control of the fan. Sizes are around 7 cm by 10 cm.

Check this out:

Bronze Wire Premium Half Hard Round Solid Uncoated Bare Wire Gauges 14 to 22 | eBay

I was looking around for a suitable spring manufacturer or anywhere I could get various electrical contact springs of different sizes... no such luck for a little guy like me. So, I thought about making my own springs for contacts or other purposes and came across the above.

The auction ends in a couple of days, but I have a feeling he'll re-post. The key here is to get the half-hard bronze. There is a soft bronze available, but that doesn't retain its shape enough to be useful for springs.

I've just received my first batch. Time to go see what sort of spring I can make...

Bronze is an alloy of tin and copper. Since when have they added lead? Some alloys contain small amounts of silicon and other nonmetals, but never heard of one of them being lead.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Yeah, now I can't find where I read that. I may have been doing research at the 9th hour...

Here's a great price on an otherwise very expensive precision adjustable beam expander. Don't let the 1064nm wavelength AR coating cause you to dismiss these, when coated for 1064nm the AR is also good for 532nm and close enough to 520nm to be used with laser diodes at that wavelength too.
