3pcs 1mW Powerful Laser Pointer Pen Beam Light Green Red Blue Violet High Power | eBay

can you believe how cheap for way OSpec pointers( set of 3) at $2 and change each w/ free ship- Its a price war on pointers-

BTW I got a setf(of 3) from a US location ($9)and for the first time in maybe 40+ pointers ptwo had pos.(+) to the front- I assumed they were both (R & B) DOAs and did not even try that- the seller only then told me the way- I only tested the wrong way VERY briedfly and did no damage that was but maybe was just lucky- or perhaps the lasers had polarity protection BUt I think not.
they did NOT charge me tax and the other seller did a tax refund for me.

anyhoo
at such a low price I see more fun projects using them and hope somebody will make & offer cheap 14 mm heatsinks for pen pointers-- NOT entirely sure they help all that much but can not hurt- 14 is tight and expect to lose some of the black paint or remove it and be done and get better contact with HS.

Those are VECSEL's :) Or rather, "NECSEL," Novalux's own name for them. Not sure what the fundamental differences are between them and VECSELS, or if there is any at all.

Check this out for more info:

Those are the same things found in the Novalux Proters 488's (well, different WL obviously) that used to pop up from time to time. Pretty awesome technology!
Wow that's really cool! I didn't realize that these were so different than your "standard" DPSS units. Maybe if the price comes down I'll pick one up to play with. :p

Lightwave Halfnote Green Laser Module w Heatsink 532nm 2 5W | eBay

2.5 watt output Half-Note 532nm Laser Head (many find their output closer to 1.5 watts) - This unit has the TEC sandwiched in between the heat sink and the laser head but no temp regulation controller or current regulation boards are included, which for the laser diode, can be a pain to find at up to 25 amps. Never mind what they say on the page about 10 amps, the unit only begins to lase at 7 to 8 amps, needs over 20 amps, closer to 23 amps @ 2 VDC, maybe a couple or more tenths of a volt higher for full output. Also, one of my units had high divergence on the output, the other not, don't know why yet, project shelved for now.

There is an ebay seller in Poland who can make a 25 or more amp constant current circuit board for this, although his price isn't cheap, his 60A model was 300 dollars last I looked and he likes to epoxy everything to keep China from duplicating his work. The thermal electric cooler on the unit which is used to regulate the diode temperature to keep it at 808nm is 12 VDC and can require 10 or more amps. The TEC used to warm the KTP crystal is rated from 3 to 12 volts, but I was able to get my KTP crystal to operating temperature using only 2.4 VDC and about 2 amps of current. I believe 12 VDC mentioned in the manual is far too much voltage for the KTP heater, maybe that is just the rating of the TEC (wired backwards to produce heat). The unit has integral 10K thermistors you can tie to for diode and KTP temp regulation.

Last one just sold for $182 - I already have two of these, both work although had problem with one of them because a wire inside was blocking the output of the 1064nm thin-disk 808nm diode array (20W Oclare) pumped YAG rod, the wire must have shifted out of place during shipping.

One more item of interest for those wanting to build their own lab laser, this is just the enclosure for the laser and an external power supply/controller:

I just picked up the set of 3 ($9) from the US location. You are right, for that price you cant go wrong. Thanks for the tip!

For a 4 watt laser made by Coherent, the starting price is a deal for those who can build their own controller and power supply, but for hobby use, maybe stick with CNI unless you need a machine this nice, still, it caught my attention, thought I'd share the link:

SPL PL90 25W Pulsed Laser Diode

SPL PL90_3 75W Nanostack Pulsed Laser Diode

Don't expect much burning out of these,
especially the 25W one, but they do have a
clear lens, unlike the SPL LL, so they can
be focused.
  • 905nm IR, so be careful.
  • The first one is probably what they say it is.
  • The second one I'm not 100% sure.
  • Buy at your own risk.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

NO. People post these several times a year without researching them.

Just look at the datasheet you linked. They are rated for a max of 0.1% duty cycle. 0.1% duty cycle on 25W is 25mW. 25mW is your average power. If you go much higher, you melt it. On top of that, it's only okay with 0.1% for "short durations". If you run 0.1% for more than a few seconds, you melt it.

They're for range finding and lidar and stuff like that. They're useless for our purposes.

they can be focused
have you seen the beam of a 200x2 micron emitter? It's absolutely horrible.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I'm not the usual duck, I'm interested in pulsed laser diodes for other uses, not for burning anything. I was asking TLS about finding something like this some time back, maybe that's part of the reason he posted it. Truth is, although you will think I'm a crack fiend  for admitting it publicly, I've decided to move out of the visible spectrum with my laser pointers intended for flashing illusive inter-dimensional craft from other worlds, I don't want to risk flashing an airplane or jet with a visible laser I mistake for being something else (don't worry, the UFO thing is just a cover story for the real reason I don't dare talk about).

I'm going to go ahead and buy some of the 75W ones, but I need to find a high peak current short pulse driver now, anyone have a suggestion?

Indeed I would be surprised to see even a
puff of smoke, but I was going to try one
out anyway just to see. I have tried the
18W ones and they do absolutely nothing
even with black plastic right up against
the front. This is really for a range
finder project I pick up every once in a
while.

Model:
2213-150ml YW

WARNING! Please be aware of the following before you spend $100 to ship a boat anchor:

The 2213 heads will NOT work with any standard JDSU 120VAC supplies like the 2114 or 2112. They have a higher tube voltage and they ONLY work with the 2113 power supplies, and those supplies are rare/expensive.

Is this Spectra Physics laser of interest to anyone? Seller doesn't know if it works, it might go cheap but what is it? I'm not bidding this up, I bid the start at 99 dollars but won't go higher, someone else has the lead:

Yeah that's been up for a little bit now. I saw it while perusing perhaps a week ago. There's a few infrared 3.39um hene heads up too. I got one.

Wasn't the 593.5 you got really similar/identical to that one?
