Green laser diode, LED or ? @ 532nm? (edit: according to what I can find so far, this is a Vertical External Cavity Surface Emitting Laser, or extended cavity surface-emitting laser).

I don't know what this puts out, but reading this article, I am wondering if this is a 532nm laser module at more than a watt: High output RGB sources promise laser TV 'by 2007'

Edit, adding this too:

There are lots of contacts on the ribbon, I'm wonder what it takes to get one of these playing? Sophisticated drivers?

Yea theres a 488 VECSEL on ebay somewhere too. Theres some company that makes VECSEL's, I will see if I can find a link for you. One they offer is something like 4W@542nm IIRC.
this site has a lot of useful information as well.

That sounds like a wonderful gift. congrats to you man...a great sig from a great man, on what I consider my favorite HeNe. I re-tweaked mine last night, the mirrors are finally settling back in, so I got it to peak at a whopping 49 mW! I'd love to show it at SELEM but i'm too afraid it'd break on the trip unless I took it with me personally by driving or some sorcery.

Yeah, 49mw WOW - that's WAY over spec.

It's one of my favorites also.

This might be of interest to someone:

Auto Tuning ion Laser Systems Argon Krypton | eBay

If not that, maybe this: 50 watt 532nm? Pick up only in Fla., he says:

Laserscope KTP 532 50W Laser System | eBay

Laserscope KTP/532 YAG Laser For Sale | LaserScope Lasers

Do NOT even consider buying a laserscope unless you
A) have proper safety (and I dont mean some OD3 532 glasses)
B) know how to properly maintain and run a laserscope (i.e. its q-switch, the lamp, so on)
C) have somewhere safe to use it.... dont want to send 50+ watts of 532 into a neighbors property, or for that matter, someones face.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Wise advice, I would hope this is a no brainer but who knows, someone might not know how to be safe. I have OD7 goggles.

I have the data sheet on those diodes if you want it and the pin out.

I'm holding out because they had a 55# nm diodes as well I wonder if one of those will show up.

PM me with your email ill send you PDF (i archived it years ago)

Hopefully, if you can afford it, you can afford glasses, and your a responsible adult.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

They're not a turn-key system. It takes a lot more than just being responsible and pressing a button... like the pointers you're used to. They need water-cooling, 240V mains supply, regular maintenance, etc. You generally need electrical, optical, and engineering skills to operate them. The arc lamps operate at high voltage and high current. Also, 40W pulsed is WAY more dangerous than 40W CW. You're gonna have a hard time and you're gonna end up with a pricey door-stop (or maybe even a trip to the ER) of you think "I built a DVD-burner laser with a lm317, how hard can this be?"

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Yes they're both small greens. Assuming they work, that's not the best deal, but decent

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

On the 532nm pulsed 50W KTP and YAG, I was thinking along the lines of parts, that they might be useful to someone with the know how here.

Hak, I guess you must have been charged sales tax. I found out quite awhile back that if the supplier has a warehouse or distribution center in your state, they will charge you sales tax. I got in the habit of checking where it might be coming from or if they have a sales tax added. It is usually hidden at the end of the listing or far into the description. Some times I have paid the sales tax if it was still a good deal, but where I live the sales tax is close to 10%, so it must be a really good deal. Sorry to hear this happened to you.

The supplier may list a single place of origin, but if they have any site in your state, even if they don't list it, they will charge you sales tax at the rate of your state.
