Pen Laser Thread

Great pen collection, Pman. I see you were busy with this for awhile and remember you posting about them. BTW, the post office picked up your package about an hour ago.

We need an updated snapshot of Dr.lasers pen collection too :D, looking at his sig I'd say it would have to be the best collection of CNI glp's on the planet !!!!

@Dr.laser #praying

I’m working on adding few missing wavelengths (594-671 and a couple more) Stay tuned for the updated family picture.

Good. I'm refusing to let this thread die off. What have people been putting the low output diodes in since I've been gone? Has anyone found any good hosts from home depot or Lowe's etc. since I've been gone? Luckily I at least have so.e defiant pens left that I hadn't used yet so the 503 might go in one of those if I don't do something stupid and blow it.

I've been looking at some Coast (brand) pen lights for some potentially waterproofed builds. These can be found on Amazon and Home Depot. The focusable version is a bit longer and may be better suited for lasers.
These LED lights are usually too short for 2 AAAs and a laser module but I think it may be possible to get clever to minimize the length of a complete module. I would need a machine shop to realize my plans, though.

Hi P,
Well Jordan has the Flex drives and he will set them to 250mA for the new 505's 495's diodes. these diodes run great at this setting. He had the Nano drivers with a setting of 275mA, but i don't see them in that range anymore , i think they start at 350mA now.

Rich:)

Still have to isolate the diode if you use the Flex Drive drivers. Unless you can find another continuous positive driver that can get that high Vf, the Blitz Linear is the only option. Not a great option, but still an option.

Hi Paul,
Thats just for the 505's you have to isolate the diode , the 495's should be ok ?

Rich:)

Hey,Rich!! I don’t know your lathe configuration. I know I asked this in an email. But, would you be able to turn out pen hosts from brass or T6 tubing? Tube could start with the ID for cells, then turn desired OD...? :D
SGD

Edit: I went on Laser66 site and took a shot at ordering a chrome pen tube. We’ll see...

Hi SGD,
Will send email to you i might have something you will like stashed away.

Pete, yes, I still have some of those Defiant pen lights from HD, they definitely make an excellent host for a pen build! :yh:
I haven't seen much in the way of new pen size lights lately that are of any kind of quality that you'd want to use for a host.

Hi,
I also have some Defiants..and some of these pens.
Rich:)

Absolutely correct. I saw the 505nm and mentally locked onto that one. I see now I should have qualified my statement. The 495nm diodes have a floating case pin. :o

As promised

Man, that is a lot of GLP pens! I would love to have that 577nm one. You can leave it to me in your will. :o
