Hi, Nice build for a lower power single mode diode like the PL520 , short cycles , good job..

Rich:)
Thanks Rich :) it was hard to see it go but it was a quick build as a gift for a friend who also appreciates lasers. I believe the diode was a sharp 505 nm that I bought on eBay. It never ran hot even after a few minutes of it being on. Love the mint color, I do miss it so much I might buy another diode and give it another go. I don't have the black piece of plastic I used to isolate the diode from the host, I don't even remember where I got it but it was a perfect fit to hold the diode tight in place even with a hard spring that I ended up replacing as to not have it fall apart on my friend

Hi SGD,
The top pic is the most recent and the rest were done some time back. All infall they are handy and compact but still need to run with a lower power diodes due to minimal heat sinking. Thanks Buddy for the reply.

Rich:)

Hey Rich, I might have asked this before so I apologize in advance. Do you machine anything that takes 1 Or 2 10440 batteries? I'm interested in buying a handful (up to 10pcs) of similar hosts to make low power pointers in my favorite wavelengths. Looking to make them all around 120-150mw including some case positive reds, mints, cyans and the like..

Here's another laser pen built for my best friend/fishing buddy/coworker. This time with an m140 diode at what I would consider medium power at around 240mA I think. I don't have my digital multimeter I'm familiar with but the other I have was reading 0.24 in the voltage setting on the dummy load I finally put together this weekend. Here are some pics.
Sorry for the dirty hands, I was working on my truck and the grease really worked its way into my skin.
You might notice in the pictures, with not as dirty hands, there was no button. The last pictures have the final button I cut into shape from a translucent silicone tail cliky switch boot that I have laying around. I'm proud of this one. Used the full copper back half from DTR for extra heatsinking

Thanks for looking and hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
Best regards

You should put a ring on the lens housing. It helps when you are trying to focus the beam. These are normally set to 1.8 amps, so 240 mA would be quite low. Considering you put it into a pen, that is probably just as well.

Yeah I did that after posting the last picture. Here it is with the ring on it

I also use the translucent boot to cover the laser from dust but it also allows me to see if the laser is accidentally turned on

Update on the pen laser!
Added an led indicator like I've seen done
Only difference is that I used an smd LED and the center piece of a transparent/translucent tail switch cover as a button since this stuff absorbs light like crazy and likes to glow with the flow
