Cyp. What I listed was not a cure. I had said that it gives your body long enough to develop one.

Rabies is a virus. It is almost 100% fatal without treatment. What was that about no cures for viruses? This is just one example of viruses that can be cured by medications. For other examples see hepatitis B and C.

Are you confusing vaccination with curing? I don't understand what you're getting at here. Are you saying rabies is curable? Because you're wrong. It is only preventable with a vaccine. Once you start showing symptoms, it's damn near 100% fatal even with treatment.

Guys, as we know it so far, there really are no cures for viruses because of their structure and the way they spread and take over your body. That's why if you have a bacterial infection they can cure you but when you get a viral one all they can do is give you something to help suppress the symptoms. Surviving a virus is all about you dealing with the symptoms and not dying before your T cells in your body attack and eradicate the virus. It is a war of attrition, and virus death rates give you an insight into how dangerous each one is. But again, no cure.
The idea behind vaccinations is to inject a person with an impotent form of the virus and trigger your immune system to create antibodies for it. Once you have those antibodies they lie dormant, so that if you ever are exposed you will either not get infected, or get over it much more quickly, depending on how fast your antibodies react.
Your body is the only potential cure for any virus.

IsaacT, that simply isn't true. There are cures for viruses and I listed three, though if you want to use semantics, the rabies cure is a vaccine after the fact of being exposed to the virus. Now for hepatitis B and C, there have been cures around for quite some time. They used to include such medications as interferon alpha and ribavirin and have now more biologic cures that include an all oral therapy. These cures are not 100% effective, but a three oral course for hepatitis C is showing great promise and has been approved by the FDA showing a 100% cure rate so far on the patients it has been used on. But these and other viruses have been curable for quite some time.

Then in my opinion we have about as much a cure for them as we do cancer. But you would never say we have a cure for cancer. We just have treatments that can rid the cells from people's bodies over time.

If you are looking for a 100% cure for a disease, you will be disappointed. There is no such thing. Curing viruses like hepatitis is not at all like what you are calling the classical cure for a cancer, though there are some new biologicals that might make you change your view about this disease as well. Many hundreds of thousands of people infected with hepatitis have been CURED of their diseases. It is not 100% effective in all people. My point was there are cures for viral diseases, and to say something like " there are no cures for any viruses" is just false.

1. Ebola is SCARY. During the current outbreak it has been lethal over 70% of the time.
-The onset is no different from a flu - something we've all experienced. This familiarity scares the crap out of people.
-Symptoms progress rapidly once past the initial flu like stage, and again are scary... bleeding from every orifice, and intense pain, of course people are freaking out.
-After months of repeated statements from the CDC and other sources about how hard it is to transmit, healthcare workers here get infected.
-The exact mechanics for transmission are still vague. While we keep hearing that exposure to bodily fluids is required, and even then is not a guarantee, we have highly contradictory evidence from the transmissions that have taken place to doctors, and nurses, not in a third world nation, but in settings of more developer countries.
-There is no cure. There is treatment, but at present it is mostly ineffective, and unavailable. (Not going into this... :horse
2. It would seem the leadership of many nations is averse to admitting to one very sad fact. The only effective way to deal with Ebola is quarantine. We are in many ways much worse off now, with such a disease, then we would have been 500 years ago. Quarantine, is the only option and it has to be enforced.
3. Colon cancer - if you're reading this post you're probably a man, and your odds of dying from it are much higher than Ebola. Same goes for a car accident, or even being shot by an overzealous cop.
IMO, the ebola situation will continue to simmer, without resolution, but with little impact except maybe more hassle when traveling. The media will drop the story in another 1-2 weeks tops, and move onto something else. Maybe we can talk about the number of people that die every year from the actual flu? Or falling out beds... (statistically the bed is more dangerous than airplane travel)

Unbelievable! because Cyparagon doesn't know that viruses can be cured he has hit me with a huge negative feedback that has been detrimental to my overall rep. I noted that rabies was among viruses that can be cured he stated that it is a vaccine that doesn't work because the virus, though is infecting an individual, it is not active enough to count. He has also ignored my example of hepatitis that is a virus which has been cured by biologics that are not vaccines at all and even though I have him on my ignore list and haven't seen anything he's said, he knows nothing about immunology. I took a post graduate course in immunology. That's why he is on my ignore list. I was responding to the statement that virus can't be cured. S#$T!!!

I've BEEN MISQUOTED AS WELL. I STATED THAT THE ORAL THERAPY WITH THREE BIOLOCICS IS SHOWING 100%t EFFECTIVE, SO FAR. THAT IS, SO FAR!!! IT HAS BEEN USED ON A VERY LIMITED NUMBER OF PEOPLE AND THEY HAVE ALL BEEN LISTED AS VIRALLY UNDETECTED.

Allowing ebola on American soil is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.
The MINUTE they found out an airliner was carrying an infected passenger, that airliner should have been ordered OUT of United States airspace and/or shot down if it refused to comply. It should never have been allowed to land here in the first place.
The affected areas in Africa should be nuked and quarantined for an extended period of time.
I'm sick and tired of seeing the US bailing out these garbage nations, wasting our money and now risking civilian lives by bringing their diseases here. They need to keep that shit at home and not spread it around. We are having enough disease issues what with anti-vax imbecile parents and their plague-ridden howler monkeys
