NOW 447nm CNI lasers & GB #11

Those are the batteries; and honestly that is the ONLY CR2 charger around. It's cheap, but I have about five of them from o-Like purchases, and they work fine.

Seriously, I've had no issue with them in any of my o-Likes, and for a while I had an Aquarius that used CR2. That was fine, too; I upgraded to the AqPro/PGL-III-A, and that one takes CR123A, but the Aquarius, while I had it, I liked it; I just wanted more power.

Really, if you don't have a yellow laser yet, 589 is the way to go, and it'll be brighter than you think.

Actually, I don't have any lasers in my possession ATM, but the two I have coming use two different types of batteries (one uses 18650, the other uses CR123A's), and the 589 would use a third type of battery. Can anyone say BATTERY HELL?

Welcome to the hobby, sir.

Haha, nice... Well, I'm only starting out with 10 batteries total so far, although that will go up to 14 if I get the 589. It'll only get worse from there, I guess... Only time will tell.

By the way, where'd you get those plastic holding containers? I've seen some before, but never any in stores.

DealExtreme as well.. I think they're $1.30 or something. Work for CR2, CR123 and 18650.

Okay... I've been in semi-regular contact with Glenn since last night about this GB. I haven't managed to get how close we are to the order going out to CNI (hint hint, Glenn), but he did say that a low number of people have talked to him about 589's, and that may need to be pushed back a week. He's also said that he's starting a new full-time job next week, so he's probably not going to have as much time online. So, at his suggestion, I'm going to try and see if we can get 10 people together who would be willing to go for 589's.

As stated on the OP, it's a GLP-589 (PDF datasheet) pen from CNI, rated for 1mW, although Glenn says he figures it'll be overspecced by around 4-18x, so somewhere in the 10mW range, +- 5mW probably [see note at bottom]. Stated divergence is <1.5mRad, with a 1.5mm diameter at the aperture. They take one CR2 battery @ 3V. In the OP, he said the special pricing was $250 per pen, but only with a minimum of 10 orders, then add PayPal and shipping fees on top of that. The 447 pricing he gave was a starting price of $270, and a final price of $295, so we can probably expect these units to be around $275 USD for US shipping, and a bit more worldwide.

I'll put myself down as the first person interested. Anyone else care to join me?

And on a side note, congrats on finding a new job Glenn! (Especially in this economy!):beer:

[Note 1]: Glenn says he has one of these pens that runs at 3mW, but because it was so low an output, they gave it to him extra cheap. If 3x rated power is low, then I can only imagine what normal or high power is.

Idk bout the 589's but I would really like to get this 447nm deal done since it's been 3 months since the whole blue diode thing kicked off with WL... I thought that this would've been done in 2 weeks!:undecided:

Hey Glenn, I know these aren't full lasers, but could you ask about the blank PGL-III-C hosts? Specifically ones that take 18650s and have the shutters (probably the ones that are for 445nm). I just don't know if bobhaha will ever get around to it.

Sorry, first, all the CNI 447nm lasers use2X CR123 3.0 V batteries, second, CNI has always seemed disinterested in selling any empty hosts when I have talked to them. I'll ask again, and if they would, the PGL III made for the green or blue w/b the best bet, as most all of those are for 1X 18650.

Also thanks for posting jedirock, however the 589nm pen uses 1X CR2 battery just like the 405nm unit does... -Glenn

Thanks a lot Glenn! Not sure where Bobhaha's getting his info. I really do like those hosts though.

Thanks, seems I missed that somewhere... I'm still thinking about the DL Spartan I had ordered, which takes 2x CR123A. Post modified.

Probably due to some people getting hyped up and then disappointed with the Arctic, and maybe not wanting to bother after a bad 'first laser experience'.

Which is a damn shame because the CNI units are probably a lot better. And if the CNI units say 1W, they will be 1W.
