NOW 447nm CNI lasers & GB #11

Last I heard from him was in PM about 10 days ago when he said the lasers were in production, and he was trying to add 3 more to the order. That's good, because it means the order has been placed; CNI usually takes a few weeks to produce and then another to ship.

I do think the quietness is a bit uncharacteristic... Likely his new job has had him shift priorities pretty dramatically; however, still I think we should try to get more information on the status of this GB, just for the sake of some of the first participants.

A lot of folks have sent in money and aren't sure of what's going on, or when ETAs are, etc. and this is their first GB for them.

Unfortunately I think the best way to do that would be if an LPF vet who does know him were to contact him on the phone or something..

To a lot of folks where this was their first GB: This isn't usually how it goes.. It *DOES* take a while, but usually we hear some more. But again, Glenn had some life changes recently, so that likely accounts for the silence.

There's really no reason to think anything is going wrong with the GB though, again, CNI has to build these lasers, and ship them from China, and that's not quick. (You can look at the start and end dates of previous GB threads to understand.)

However, I just sent him a PM and an email, seeing if he can update us all here and see what the current status is. I think that'd help a lot, and hopefully we'll hear from him soon.

If there are any LPF vets in his area, and are on the sort of first-name-basis with him to give him a ring and see whats up, maybe that could happen?

I agree there should be much more communication here. Regardless of how busy he might be. It doesn't exactly take hours to log in and post a few lines of text with status updates.

Reputations are high maintenance things after all.. They tarnish much faster than they're built if you don't keep them in tiptop shape.

Hey folks, so sorry to be offline so much lately. I do look at the LPF at least several times a week, even when I work overtime a lot. As for CNI, they are likely to do as before, and not say if they will ship in 4 days or 14, judging from the past, but I'll be emailing them and any hints I get I'll relay. Thanks All! -Glenn

On top of the now 3-13 days it will take for you to receive it.. when will we get the packages?

I'm in for a 589nm 1mW. You know what they say, better late than never

A big thanks to you, Glenn, for organizing all this and accepting my extremely late order! :thanks:

I'm having to balance my money between multiple hobbies, and unfortunately music lies higher on the priority list so lately the only new stuff I've gotten would be guitar-related. I'm just as disappointed to see my list unfulfilled as you are, believe me. I guess a 589nm represents a good start though... and next on the list should be the 12X after seeing Morgan's GB thread (have they really come down to the <$100 range or am I misinterpreting something?). Hopefully I'll have better luck with the 12X than I did with the 6X :p

Yeah they're sub $100 now. they were $60 in the 12x GB I just did. But that's just a sled. Host+driver+heatsink etc is going to add to the cost.

Really? I always thought they were free :p

Well he has a point. Wasn't too long ago when 12x and even 8x 405 diodes, if you LEDed one while building, financially, you kinda ruined your whole month.

Now, it'll only ruin your week.

Progress.

Progress indeed.

I'm probably gonna be knocking off the cheaper items on the list in the near future (sub-$300 projects) and then once I have a decent collection going I'll move to the more expensive ones (100mW 589nm, 400mW 532nm, etc.). The main reason is that I'm going to be spending >$2k on a new guitar soon (Ibanez RG2228 ) and I can't afford to get the big guys on the laser list anytime soon. I'll sure be enjoying the 1mW 589 in the meantime though

I hear you - I'm waiting on a 589 pen here and i'm really wanting to see how it turns out. I hope we hear from Glenn on shipping on this soon, it's been about 3 months!

Glenn if you're around, can you let us know when CNI says production is finished on these?
