Guess I'm going through the early stages of addiction when I just want every laser out there. Hopefully it will wear off ..... :) otherwise it's gonna be an expensive Christmas

I don't know whether Nitrox are commercial resellers or semi-pro hobbyists but assuming the quality is there, the prices on their website seemed pretty decent to me. They are quoting $ 135 for a 240 red and $ 200 for a 150 BR which isn't much over hobbyist-produced prices. Anyway, good luck to em. As you say, the market will decide.

I have never purchased one of his units to deconstruct and evaluate.  I do not recall ever seeing a review of one of his builds here in the forum. However, my main concern about his "quality" is that he doesn't seem to understand the concept of a heat sink.  Having a module sticking out into the air is NOT better at dissipating heat than having the module in significant physical contact with a massive body of metal.  Plus, IMNHO, it looks like crap sticking out there.  If he doesn't understand something as basic as heat sinking, what else does he not understand?  

That module sticking out like that also brings up another question.  Does he actually not understand or is it just that he isn't creative enough to be able to figure out how to get it inside the host/heat sink?  

As you look through the B/S/T thread you will see some very compact lasers that are very "sleek" and "slick" looking.   Many of them are accompanied by tutorials on the build.  If he doesn't understand, then my above concern prevails.  

If he does understand and still builds them this way, then he is trying to deceive his customers by saying that it sticking out in the air is a good way to dissipate the heat.  If this is the case, then I have a BIG problem with him.

It's an improvement though.As I recall, but I'm not really sure, nitroxlasers was selling only a kipkay style maglite mod with a claimed power of 250mW for an outrageos price. ::)

if that's the case, then i can assume that profit is his no.1 priority, whether he has improved or not.
 
You could stock laser goggles, dont want your customers getting blinded , do you ?

I think the current price is WAY too much for a maglite style blu-ray that has a thing sticking out of the front, and has no heatsink whatsoever.
BTW, making an MXDL open can laser only costs like $80 ::)

That's what businesses are for. If you think McDonalds is there because they really care if you're hungry or not... you got it all wrong. Business is always, and will forever be, about the money and profits.
 
His prices are a bit high, but nowhere near what I would call a scam. The WL Sonar is what I would call a scam. I got a 140mw blu-ray for $80 shipped. WL is selling a pulsed 80mw for $2000 >:( Even if they only get a few ignorant/uninformed rich people to buy it they still make a lot of profit.

what you say is true, but you've missed the point. can't you see this guy's problem here? he's charging for something that can be done or bought EXACTLY for even cheaper. profit is the key to business, but unreasonable profit is another thing.

if he's talking about a host which he custom designed for his laser with key-switch safety feature and adjustable focus, and it comes along with a casing, i'd gladly buy one for that price or maybe even higher. you must give your customers at least one reason why it's advantageous to buy from you if you want them to purchase your products

all he's charging for is labour cost. why should his labour cost be higher than what our forum members charge for if his lasers are nothing special? that's not a great business proposal there.
 
I think we've bashed him enough :P Forum members know where to get lasers the cheapest - and as a result he probably won't get much business here. But there's no reason he shouldn't still be able to sell them

he deserves it. it's really just a rip-off. this is a homemade laser. it's done by putting all the easily available parts together, so why such a high labour price? too bad there were really people who bought from him (according to him).
 
remember 9 months ago 300 for a large mw bluray was low,i think its availibilty and demand who knows you can now make a bluray for like 60 bucks a really nice one at that but once the diodes become hard to obtain again look out ;)

I don't think old technology is going to become rare and more valuable because it's going to be better than new technology, ever. :P Unless we fall into some kind of darkage or something. :P So no point in stocking up PHR sleds to sell them when they'll be worth more, cause I don't think they ever will.
