The forums members have many alternatives when buying lasers, thats what i meant. Dif
If you could stock some accessories i might be interested.

Users here already sell DIY lasers for rock bottom prices, you're probably better off sticking to selling your lasers to people on youtube/ebay.

w/e your ripping off the noobs on the internet. If they got money to spare and don't care to do research then there idiots.

as a side note get some one with a steady hand to demonstrate your laser products.

We already stock modules and glass lenses. What other things might you and LPF members, in general, be interested in?

Here are two important questions that have been skipped over:

1. What diode is this? And
2. What current are you driving it at?

How exactly do you get 350mW from 422mA? You can only get up to 320mW with an open can at 420mA with a Meredith lens! It looks like your lens is only an aixiz acrylic. :-/

Let's see...

PHR laser diode: 30$
Driver: 20$
AxiZ Module: 6$
Jayrob Heatsink: 23$
MDXL Host: 7$

Total: 86$

Not to mention, you could make a heatsink out of washers, saving 22$. Then the total would be 74$ (Although not as nice looking.). You could ship something fragile about the size of a small flashlight for about 20$. So you're charging almost 100$ for labor... Not what I'd call a good deal.

well you can get the phr now for about $15 or less ;) aixiz module for about $4 so take off another $17 from your total for cost of parts

I really dont think you guys should be calling this guy a 'scammer' for selling a 350mW red for $300 bucks. We only want to see them cheaper because WE know how much they cost to make and HOW to make them. If we had this information about every piece of electronic equipment out there (manufacturing costs that is), then EVERY major electronics manufacturer would be a scammer. Go try to find a 350mW red laser from coherent or viasho or cni or laserwave.... You will see similar (if not way higher) prices (the difference being that the use actual 350mW diodes, not open can diodes being pushed way beyond their means). If a company wants to sell for a certain price, you don't have to call them a scammer, just don't buy from them.

You guys are posting what the different components cost and telling him that he is way off base for selling them for more than that. Maybe this isn't the case for a lot of you (yet) but TIME is money. At work, I can earn enough money in 2-4  hours to build the whole laser, but it's also going to cost me an hour or two to put it together (which is an hour or two that I could be working or doing something else to make money).

Just because something costs $100 to make doesn't mean it should be sold for $105 at all.

One can get a 300mW laser from Viasho for $600... jack at optotronics sells the same (more or less) laser for $1000.... does that mean he is a scammer? Absolutely not... because he has to throw in extra costs for his time of testing the lasers, and the time it took to order them, warranty repair costs etc etc etc.

Y'all do not understand business.  Many of us work differently here because we are HOBBYIST not running a small business.  The "basic" business plan for hand made types of items is that one should charge at least three times the cost of parts for the item.  How much do you figure his time is worth?  I make around $70 an hour in my "job."  If I take an hour to design, collect the parts, set up, build, clean up, and ship, I would need to charge at least $70 above cost just to stay even.  Then on top of that the business person MUST charge enough to pay for the inevitable warranty claims that will come in.  What you can get parts for today is NOT what he had to pay.  In any event.

Basic business plans would require that a laser that had $80 in parts be sold for at least $240.

I am a hobbyist.  I will NOT charge the 3X as required for a business.  I also would never require a business to sell their merchandise at hobbyist prices.

The free market is a wonderful thing.  You do not need to purchase anything from this seller.  If you do not like his prices, do not buy from him.  If you want a laser like the one he is selling, talk to one of the builders here to see if they can and will build it for you for less.  If you want to help others, tell them about what these lasers cost from the builders here.  Do NOT try to force a business to sell at hobbyist prices.  It is not he who is wrong.  It is you who do not understand business.

Simply "reselling" something made by someone else is a different kind of business.  Resellers usually have about a 2X price model.

If he can sell these lasers for $350 on the internet to the ignorant public, good for him.  If he can't, he will either lower his prices or go out of business.  Proving to him that you do not understand the profit margin should not affect him at all.  If people want to learn, they will do some research, find this place, and get a better laser for less money with excellent customer service.

In the mean time, leave him alone. If he wants to sell a unit here, he now knows he will have to lower his price.

Peace,
dave

LoL, so if I made about $2 an hour at my job, then just putting parts together, or maybe machining a heatsink, and a couple of walks to the post office for $70 is awesome :D I have to start selling lasers lol, I bet you'll all like my prices ;D
