Hi guys.

Pick this up today for £140 (haggled down from £170 :D )

Its a 10mpx Eos 400d. I hope it has full auto as I'm a n00b with DSLR's.
It has a standard 18-55m lens but I have macro lenses & macro light from
my old camera which fit perfectly.
It came fully boxed with all accessories but no memory card! (CF) so cant
take any photo's yet :/

I was considering DJNY's camera set in the B/S/T but I didnt have the $$.

So Blord, brucemir & DJNY , expect PM's to get hints :crackup:

Excuse the crappy mobile phone pictures. The sun make's it look rotten & dusty
But its not that bad :)

Nice camera you have there! ;)

I guess youll be taking a lot of beam and diode macro shots...If you dont have one a tripod will be invaluable and a cable release very handy (although you can use the self timer)

I found some really cheap memory cards on ebay and they looked legit. Will try to find a link. Go for Sandisk and min 2 G although 4 GB would be better...:) Id also choose a quicker card (there wont be a huge difference in price) and it actually wont make much difference in camera, but you will notice it when transferring photos to the computer! :beer:

Edit: I just had a look and there are literally millions on offer and quite cheap :p Just dont buy it in a camera shop. I bought my CF and HDSC cards in a well known camera store and paid 120% more than I would have done on the web...:whistle:

Congrats! I have shot the Canon brand of lenses and bodies for years and have always been please with their form and function. Share some of your photos when you have time to kick the tires!

One thing you have to consider with memory cards is the speed at which they can read or write. Cheap ones often are very, very slow or do not meet their spec.

I use 150MB/s cards in my 1DX - it helps with my burst depth, but also helps when I'm transferring photos off the card. Pulling 16GB is way faster at 150MB/s than it is at 10MB/s.

Just food for thought when you're picking a card!

That's a nice little dslr camera, I used this same camera with stock lens to capture MS-SSW Images :D

The low-light images are just ok, not much noise though! Its a great cam for that price that's for sure!
 
The 24 - 70 2.8 L is an amazingly sharp and versatile lens and makes a great all rounder. The 50 1.4 is also a good value prime and not only neat because it makes the camera small and much more portable, but its also a very fast lens and works really well in low light. :) With the EF-S mount, the 10 - 22 mm, 3.5 - 4.5 is also a great lens too! ;) :beer:

Buy a macrolens for still photography. A zoomlens is good for being mobile but nothing beats the sharpness of a macrolens.

Congrats with your new toy. And practice makes perfect. :beer:

Will look for a good review page I found a while back...just a mo...;) P.S the numbers following the focal length in mm is the max aperture ie how wide the the aperture opens. The wider, the faster the lens as it lets more light in. This enables you to photograph in lower light with a faster shutter speed enabling you for example to get shots without a flash. It also has other advantages eg shallower depth of field. :beer:

Ped, What are you willing to spend on a lens? Also, are you going to be taking macro's only? Or do you want to be taking portraits/landscapes/telephoto's?

With a 18-55mm and 55-250mm lens, along with a reverse ring I've got pretty much all those fields covered. the 55-250mm is my telephoto, and the 18-55 acts as my macro/portrait/landscape.

All the reverse ring does it hold on the lens backwards. As the lens is no longer connected to the camera you need to adjust your exposure before removing the lens. You also need to manually focus.

This is a picture of a flexdrive's pot I got reversing my 18-55mm:

When taking macro pictures such as these a tripod is absolutely necessary as 1mm of movement will throw the picture out of focus.
