Update, remote didn't work but it was only £2 so no matter, ordered a better one now.

And, new lens has arrived so will update with some test shots later :)

Severe depth of field issues.

If Blord doesn't mind me using one of his superb photo's to illustrate..

If I set my focus to the red arrow..the two blue arrows would be completely out of focus, where as Blord's are relatively in focus.

Ah ok,

Have you tried stopping down your aperture alot while increasing the lighting to your object and your iso? If you use a tripod for ultra macros as you should, you will also be able to use a longer exposure to make up for your smaller aperture.

I have a macro ring light which provides plenty of illumination , but if you could explain changing the settings, and what settings I should try, example numbers say, I can try it.

Thanks

^ You may google for the freeware CombineZP

You can also look into this program, you get a 30-days trial.

The Mark I version of the f/1.8 has a metal bayonet. Got the 50mm f/1.4 and the f/1.8, didn´t see any differences in picture quality. I think the f/1.4 is just much better made and has a better AF and nicer bokeh than the little brother f/1.8. Never missed the f/1.4 when taking shots with open aperture yet.

The 50 mm 1.8 prime is excellent value, but a cheaper plastic version of one of the lenses I recommended. Id personally spend a little extra and get the 1.4. Its a much better built and higher quality lens. The images with the 1.4 will be a tad better and sharper at 1.8 :)

Its a bit hard to give you exact numbers to try as I can't really tell without actually standing next to you. You need to try and use the smallest aperture you can. Example f20 or more/less depending on how bright the picture comes up. The smaller your aperture (higher f-stop) the higher depth of field you have.

You need to go in to manual and just play around with your shutter speed, iso and aperture till you get the focus and amount of light right.

Perhaps try 1600 iso, f20 and a long shutter. You can also tweak it from there if it doesn't work out.
