New 9mm 445 diodes

What is the lens retainer made of? I was thinking of trying to disolve it.
(have lots of acids) If its aluminum that should be easy with sodium hydroxide.
I'm aware they are coated.
I may be willing to try it to see what happens.

Just go with the physical method... nothing fancy needed.:beer:
 





Regarding the BlitzBuck: I would suggest keeping a load on it at all times. BUT, you can adjust current while connected.

One last question on that driver. I got it hooked up tonight and tested to be sure it works and it did. I have it set on the low mode for now and I have 3 questions before I get it dialed in.

1) where is the current set at when it arrived to me?

2) can I check the current at 2 of the open pads with my multimeter if the other 2 are driving the laser?

3) If I decide to set it to high mode what do I need to do to get it dialed back down to as low of current before I power the laser again so that I do not drive my diode too hard before I can get it dialed down? I would assume that if the driver is set to 1.8a in low mode that it would be set to 3a output if switched to the high mode without adjusting the pot.

The current should be at the lowest it can be, so around 1.2A. But I'm not sure - I would suggest using a test load.

To check the current, again, use a test load. If it was at 1.8A in low, then you need to dial it all the way down while measuring it on a test-load in order to set the current in high mode.

Ok gotcha, so looking down at the pot is it turned clockwise or counter clockwise to adjust the current upward?

I do not own a test load so I am going to have to turn it all the way down and make small adjustments until I get it where I want it. But with what we know these diodes can take 1.8a minimum easily so if I never put it in high mode I should have nothing to worry about but I was really hoping to push this diode up around 2a so I will need to have the high setting adjusted to its lowest before I power it up in high mode.

Poor Kitty! It actually just ignighted some small kindling and paper Still had a good fire going in no time.

3 14500s fit perfectly using the stock battery holder.

On a separate note, how are you guys getting your lens' out of the holder and clean?

Its better to use the extended lens nut dtr sells as well right?
Nice! I wish I could fit more batteries in the saik..

Well i just let it soke in alcohol en broke the lens out with two pliers the remaining glue is sanded off. The lens plus a lens barrel from dtr worked perfect for me :) i clean my lenses with a tissue and a little low pressure compressed air. Anyhow you should get a lens cleaning kit from dx or something ;)

Had to do it.
I found an easy way to get The lens out of the holder. It is non magnetic so at first I thought it was aluminum. Put it in some sodium hydroxide and nothing happened.
Then put it in 50% HCL totally dissovled it in less than 2 minutes.
There was few pieces of glue or what ever it is but that came right off the edge.
Lens looks fine.
 
Thanks for trying it out. I wasn't sure HCL acid would harm the AR coating.
Did you try the lens in a laser ? Any damage or imperfection in the coating will reveal in the output.
