New 9mm 445 diodes

I can't say if if did anything to the coating. It looked "clear" before I did it. Couldn't tell if there was anything on it.
Don't see any difference.
The diode is not ready yet so I couldn't try it out.
A before and after test would have been better but I wasn't going to use that lens any way.
Will try it out at some point and see what happens.

Ok, so I finally got to test one of my diodes out. I am getting 2.56w @ 2.0a of current. I know there is no handbook for these diodes but with these readings do you professionals think this diode can be turned up any further?

I wouldnt try it TBH

why do I always get the crappy ones......:yabbem:

Not sure I can agree with that line of thought. 2.6W @ 2A is pretty common with the 9mm diode plus the big advantage is they run more stable due to the larger package. Any of the ones you have seen peak @ 3W have been driven to at least 2.25A or have been chilled. So taking the example of 3W @ 2.25A that is about 1mA to 1.33mW. Your diode is about 1mA to 1.28mW. I am not comfortable suggesting running these to 2.3A yet. I am comfortable running mine own to 2.1-2.2A but I still recommend 2A to be on the safe side.

On the M140's in my experience they on average are about 2.1W @ 1.8A and some of the most efficient ones I personally have verified peaked a little over 2.4W. So 2.1W @ 1.8A is 1mA to 1.16mW. So if you take the average M series diode to your 9mm you have .12mW per mA better efficiency.

If you want the higher peaks that people have been boasting drive it harder but do so at your own risk as we don't have long term data on driving them that high. It could be safe or it could cause the diode to degrade over time.:)

I really didn't mean it when I said crappy. I mean look at what I am whining about. A year ago people would be slobbering over a 2.5w laser. I know its not crappy I just was hoping it would be more in the 2.7w range. I am going to push it to 2.1a and leave it be and order another!

No problem. I just wanted to put a my two cents in. I get a lot of requests for "those 3W diodes you have" as they put it.

That is one of the reasons I don't list this diode with any specific power. It is funny. It is like the old A140 days when people would think they got a "crappy one" when they did not get that rare 2W diode.:)

There hard to find without the right driver mine is sitting at 2.7A in for allmost 3W out.. 2.98W ish.. just tested it again on low batteries and it hit 2.98W.. but I am running the driver at 12V in..

hrm I havent even touched the 2.5W H1600 yet this year and I have another diode not tested yet. 2.5WH1600 mogasm linear 2x 16340's... I just want to do some home made reviews this year...

for 3W you have to be willing to sink in 2.8A They die at 3.15A

Also the 9mm lense colminates. with the same output as a g2. my g2's make these look like a bar and I cant focus but the 9mm lense makes it a dot.

Well worth the cash with a barrel..

yep... It popped at 3.15A. Think Lasereer said his popped at about that current too. That was a nice diode too it was just a twitch of my finger that sent the current up that high it hit 3.5W out at about 2.7-2.9A in... ooops.. the saik I posted is at 2.7A ish in outputing 2.9W...

Should we give a name to the stock lens of the 9mm diode ? The performance of the lens is comparable with the G1/G2 lens. And it is AR coated as well. We could call it the G3 lens :)

I still say that it colminates the beam better than the G2. I get a beautiful dot out of mine compared to a bar on the G2... Just saying that for the same or a bit better output the beam is alot tighter and better than the G2 so it Deservs a great name...
