My First Laser Attempt, Double Check Me

This is quite embaressing but I'm a complete noob at laser builds, but I want to build one. What components should be on my shopping list? What pitfalls should I be aware of during my build?
I discovered this website totally by accident, and what a find it was!

thanks for any help in advance

There are 3-4 threads directly below and above this one with all of those questions asked and answered with links. Before you start shopping for components though... Do some reading and research. Try to expand your knowledge about the laser fundimentals.

This thread in particular has quite an expansive list of the parts for a entry level PHR-803T build.

Hope this helps

Thanks mike. I've done some research on it already over the past few hours, but i think its going to take a few weeks for me to get a full grasp of how a laser works. Rushing it is probably the biggest mistake so i'll take my time

You are welcome. You have the basic idea to not rush this hobby! It gets expensive learning from simple mistakes that could have been avoided by just slowing down and taking your time. Use the search button as much as you can (although it doesn't always help). If not, ask around a little.. there are many members more than willing to give you as much advice as you need. I ask one thing of you though.. If you make a post about it please try to contain all of your questions to that thread so that we don't overcrowd the forum with lots of new threads.

Mullarice I'm new too, you do not need to be an expert, most of my knowledge was acquired over 2 days of posting and using google, and talking to LPf members over pm

I actually realized i made the mistake but i was on my ipod touch when i psoted it and i was too lazy to edit it and fix it, The module i was looking at was a x2 package which means its 10 dollars, 10/2 = 5, I forgot it was a x2 package so mentally I assigned the price of just 1 module to be the value of 10 dollars, $14-15 is indefinitely cheaper than 17-19 dollars prefitted, However, you don't have to be mean about it and assume I didn't research T_T, it was just a mistake based on my own pre assumption, but yeah I did make a mistake.

Anyway for those of you who actually care, I'm going to go ahead and pre-order the Pailide Kit from Mohrenberg and then I'm going to get busy building a laser, post some pictures maybe, make a video, Anyway, Thank you all for all of your help

Just an additional info, if it's not too late: pressing the diode into the Aixiz housing is NOT trivial, it requires a considerable amount of force, no mere fingerpressing! If you can get an Aixiz with diode pressed in (most people here who sell diodes offer that), it might get you started faster. If not, look for instructions on how to do it - there are a few to be found here, though it might take some time. It's very easy to break the pins off the diode. In case you've never seen one before, you'll be surprised how tiny they are!

An empty .22 caliber casing works well to press the diode in with a vice

hey absolute, i know you are buying a pre made deal from mo, but for future peace of mind. when you do decide to build your own, and press in your own LD, make sure you press it all the way in to the module head. a surface press will not be good. although it can work. its good to press it in all the way so that the LD is flush.

Adding to what chip said...if it is not pressed in all the way you will have trouble focusing your laser.

Thanks, I'm just waiting for parts to ship in now, Greatful for the tips chip and cult, The Mohrenberg kit does not come with the diode or the module so the tips are probably going to end up being useful, I'll have to solder the diode to the driver, afterwards, ez stuff, it'll be fun though

Keep us posted! Don't forget to take pictures of the build to share with us.

Where can I get images of like Laser Warning and Danger Decals so I can print them for my laser?

Someone here was selling printed laser warning labels some time ago, check in the B/S/T section. There was also a zip file with an image (I think PhotoShop) which you could use to print them yourself, however it was not very good quality. I'd simply create my own.

If you scrap w/a very small screw driver to get the shiny coating off the inner lip of the Aixis mod where you press the diode in not only would it make it easier to install,
but makes it more conducive for heat transfere...also PM member (the Monk) for a diode press tool their worth every dollar
