My First Laser Attempt, Double Check Me

Another way to press the diode in is to use the back part of the Aixiz housing. Just turn it around so the hole in the back of the module housing is facing the back of the diode and put the whole thing into a bench vice. I've pressed several diodes into the Aixiz modules this way and never had any issues.

Whoa, just realized there were two pages to this thread... sorry for the late post.

Where can I get images of like Laser Warning and Danger Decals so I can print them for my laser?

I've got a Visio 2000 document with a two different style labels on it. If you have Visio 2000 I could zip it and post it here.

@dr-ebert - I think that person stopped selling those labels. I tried to get some off of jayrob and he informed me about that sellers cease in distribution.

@Cenobite9 - I do not have that program (although getting it would be a mere torrent away) I would be interested in a page of those labels. If I PM you my email (it is listed in on my page also) would you mind sending that file my way?

Thanks

-Mike

Hi there, I'm also new to lasers and I have learned a lot just by following this thread. I am not trying to thread jack at all, please let me know if I should make my own thread. I just have a couple questions.

So I have my micro driver, aixz housing, and mini-mag flashlight, and I am just waiting for my PHR diode and CR123a batteries to arrive. I would like to use the mini-mag flashlight for the host, but without using one of those custom heatsinks (low budget build). I'll be using two 3.7v CR123a batteries in the mini-mag, which will leave some space in the battery compartment.

My idea was to install the micro driver in the aixz housing, and then put the whole aixz housing in the battery compartment, with the wires connected to the positive and negative terminals of that little plastic thing. However the inside of the battery compartment is case negative, and I was wondering if that could harm the diode or driver?

Or is there a better way to use the mini mag as a host without using a custom heatsink? Thank you so much for your time!

-Bryce

Here is a picture. ( I cropped the pic using photobucket's tools, but when I embedded the pic, the crop didn't stay, so here's a link)

You can make your PHR case negative or positive easily. By soldering the center pin on the diode to either the positive or negative pin you would create a case charge for the diode. Either will work and I suggest making it case negative, while running a small spacer between the aixiz module and battery. Connect your positive lead there.

The mini mag comes with a little plastic spacer that has the connection for the positive lead already. So after I solder the middle pin to the negative pin, and then connect to the micro driver, I can connect the positive terminal of the driver to the positive connection in the spacer, and then connect the negative terminal to the case of the aixz housing? Or to the negative connection on the spacer?

The spacer it comes with has both positive and negative connections.

Thanks!

Do just that and your laser should work. As long as their is a good connection between the host body and the aixiz module.

-Mike

So as long as there is a good connection between the host and aixz module, I don't need to connect the negative battery terminal of the driver to anything? I'm a little confused.

Thanks!

Case negative wiring diagram I stole from bennycast

The only thing it doesnt show is the diode module housing or host but I think you will understand

Good deal! How about you finish your project and get us some pictures!!

-Mike

the diagram above explains very clearly. Many thanks to the poster as this will help considerably

haha .22 bullet, thats awesome, i've got a couple in my car i'll have to try that....

right now i just have a piece of metal i got from the hardware store......i don't use it much anymore though.....mostly just making these kits and not any lasers...
