My 8X at 440mA

Eeeek lmfao!
Im getting a Tank007Cu6x (Copper heatsink) off flamingpyro, its topping up to $309 excluding shipping etc.
I am not sure whats worse the fact you burnt a doll from 20ft away by accident or that you have dolls lool =P (I googled it to find out what kachina was, kinda funky dolls!)

Yeah. There's a bit more to them than just being "dolls." ;)

Peace,
dave

Would the type of rkcstr driver have anything to do with it either? I "think" the one i built for you in the coleman is a fixed driver using SMD resistors to set the current.
This is just a random guess as i am just throw crap out there.....so i apologize if it's a retarded suggestion.

Also, i know if your trying to run a diode below it's required voltage, the current will raise and lower as you raise or lower the voltage.

so could it's jumping around simply be voltage spikes in the batteries while it's operating under it's minimum voltage?
I'm thinking this is the most likely scenario.

Are we still talking about the original laser with the Rkcstr?

Peace,

yep this is the one. and you are so very right about the focus ring thing. I have made that mistake a few times already. Stings like hell.

At 440mA, would you please keep track of actual "on" time. You are pushing these harder than anyone else has. It would be very interesting to see how long it lasts.

I know it is a pain, but if you just keep a piece of paper and a pen nearby to record how long it was on in a burn, it would help a lot.

I think that we can assume (at 440mA) that you have crossed the 500mW barrier with this one (at least for awhile)

Peace,
dave

I'd be happy to do that. I will go ahead and give it a 20 minute entry for the time it has been used so far. Which is a modest figure. By the way, how much % more output do you think a violet laser gets with the window removed? I can't imagine it is much more than a couple percent?

Thanks Yobresal.

Sorry. I don't remember anyone doing enough work with comparing windowed to windowless to have an estimate.

Peace,
dave

Those comparison beam shots are very impressive! Nice job, btw.

Thanks for logging some time Yobresal.

Since the "8x Diode Murder Fund" testing has reached 90 hours, I'm thinking of upping my 8x from 300mA but... still a little hesitant :)

Yeah it really just depends on your diode, heatsinking, and your own level of acceptable risk of dramatically shortened life expectancy.

I increased my current from 360ma (451mw) to 400ma (508mw) ever since the murder diode went past 90 hours.

I am willing to accept the risk and realize my 8x BR will never even get close to 90 hours at that current level.

If it lasts 10 hours that's more then a years use for me. I don't play with it every day. In a year there will be much more powerful diodes to play with.
