Movies with actual lasers in them

Here's a fun topic I thought of:

Name the oldest movie you can think of that has an actual laser in it. Or, just a movie with a sexy laser in it.

By 'actual' laser I mean 'actual' laser - not special effect laser added post via animation, etc. For instance, 'Goldfinger' doesn't qualify because the laser was added as a special effect although the movie itself was awesome.

I'll start this off with 'Demon Seed - 1977'. Not only did they have one of the most gorgeous blue lasers I've ever seen in it (470-480nm Argon?) one of the heroes actually uses a mirror as a defense.

Ok, name some others.

They used actual lasers in the recent Tron movie - I think one or two members here have them, after they were sold on ebay when the movie was finished.

Gimme!

As I recall, 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' used HeNe's shot through a glass crystal for the photon torpedoes, and a green/blue Argon for sky scan effect over the Vger flyby. All of which required optical printers....but it was real lasers though :-)

While not a 'movie' -- one of the things I like about 'Big Bang Theory' id the amount of lasers-- and what I dont like is how inaccurate what we see can be..

Red glasses for red lasers??

Made up names for gas lasers?

Making 'cup o soup' in just a few seconds w/ a red laser?

I doubt many 'real' lasers are or will be used- too much as risk- no need- etc.

' Mission Impossible' had some- but real?? nah- Tom Cruise is far to valuable to risk his eyes.

'Tron' may really be the exception, & not the rule.

" NO... Mr. Bond . I expect you to die!!"
Okay- extreme pain-OH YEAH agonizing death?? ...maybe but it will be a long time dying.

So with so few real lasers maybe a spin-off on this thread would be 'mistakes on TV & in movies with lasers'

AFAIK all episodes of BBT with lasers in them had inaccuracies.

hak

We may be the only ones catching that but still.

wats up wit all dat??
Its way out if character for Dr Cooper to not jump on these mistakes.

Are you kidding me, I can't believe no one has mentioned it yet, but James Bond Goldfinger 1964. Goldfinger had Bond strapped to a table and was going to slice him in half spread eagle before Bond escaped!

I am a proud owner of a 473 nm laserglow laser, used in the making of Tron Legacy.
I remember a scene from the Event Horizon movie. They would also use 473 lasers for scanning an uknown place.. There are many movies out there.. Im not sure why they still use actual lasers though, when they can simply use the power of computers.

The Final Countdown and The Lathe of heaven used actual lasers for effects, but I think those were 1980.

But is that a real laser used in the movie? Also I think this thread is about lasers featured in the movies....not just as special effects such as a tunnel light like Outland. tthe strippers in a bar scene danced in one.

Die another day featured a similar scene with halee berry but the lasers were fake........ i think they were computer generated.

Aliens had real argon laser .. it's said it was one of the more expensive effects in the movie ..

Transformers 3 had some, in the scene where the autobots raid the crashed ship. Dont know if there real though...
