Micro-Drive laser driver by rkcstr

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

Ryan
Thanks for assume drivers

Thanks,
Aaron

P.S. thanks for the parts also got it working great. A new tip for my iron will be nice though

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

I'll "assume" you meant "awesome". Thanks! ;)

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

Everything's available again!

Buy, buy, buy!!

Does that include "old" existing orders?

Peace,

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

?

Are you talking about your last order? Should have got it by now :-?

I asked you for ANOTHER 10 and you said you would have to "put me on the list" 'cause there were several others in front of me. No hurry. I was just looking to see if I was still on the list. Apparently I need to be put back on the list for 10 @ ~410mA fixed drivers. PayPal whenever. No hurry on my part. I've still got four of these red burner modules left. I'm thinking about dropping one into an MXDL host that I took in trade, but that would still leave me with enough to sell if someone needed/wanted one.

Peace,
dave

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

Ah, crap... forgot about that. Sorry!

I'll send you an invoice here shortly.

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

So... just to confirm, I'll need to use two batteries with this driver, correct? (compared to the FlexDrive which only needs one?)

I just ordered one for a 2 battery build cuz I don't know when I can get the FlexDrive.

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

u can use one 3.0v batt like the 14500 battery or 10440 or cr123 or u can use to regular aa batts... when u get ur driver he will have instructions for u to read ;)

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

When you say "use 2 batteries" I'm guessing you mean two lithium 3.7V batteries? And, what type of laser diode? Those are meaningful questions because "two batteries" could mean 2 alkalines, which would not work and the type of diode (and hence it's voltage requirement) dictate the necessary input voltage to the driver.

Anyway, Jake, I think you're talking about the Flexdrive with those battery recommendations, not my driver. I don't send instructions along with the drivers, but you can download from my website. They're at the bottom of the descriptions for each item.

Yeah, sorry should have specified.. I meant either two CR123A or 14500 batteries... using the 803T BR diode.

Your driver requires 5v min?

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

The minimum voltage depends on the diode. The driver needs at least 2.25V more than the diode, so if you're diode is a PHR, it might need around 5-6V, depending on your current, so the driver needs somewhere around 7.25 to 8.25V to regulate the current. It will still put out current below that minimum, but it won't be regulated and so, it will be lower than you expect and then continue to drop as the voltage does.

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

I'll be out of town for the next few days, so most orders that haven't yet shipped probably won't until the start of next week.  Sorry for the inconvenience!

ALSO

It has been difficult basically "running a business" like this while also keeping up with med school and everything else in my life.  Not too sure how much longer I can keep making/selling the drivers and things, unfortunately.  It's great being a part of this community and also earning some extra money, but doing well in my classes kinda trumps everything else.

One consideration I've had is having the drivers manufactured and then selling them wholesale to distributors rather than handling it all myself.  But, that also brings up issues of offering kits (which probably wouldn't happen) and the fact that it would end up only being one type of driver offered (probably the full range one and not all the others).  Then, there's the question of "how much" and also if any improvements can be made to the design, not to mention where I will find the time to consider, plan and execute any of it.

So, I'm open to any ideas and thoughts you may have on all of this.  I'd like to come up with some solution and not just leave you guys in the dust, but my life is getting busier by the day and I may need to make changes very soon.
