Iv'e heard 420ma is a good high power setting for DVD diodes (with heat sink)
but I was also wondering about a stable, high power, milliamp setting for Blu-ray diodes as well (I assume 420ma is not suggested)

thanks for any info.

should make this sticky as I was searching high and low for LD pins config.

Also, is there a summary thread on drivers?

I stumbled across some interesting Mitsubishi data sheets at the Glyn website

Specifically, the ML101U29 660nm open can red 150mw(cw) / 400mw(pulsed)

Mitsubishi also produces a 140mw(cw) / 250mw(pulsed) 405nm, the ML320G2.

The forum won't let me post links yet, but you can google the part numbers and find the datasheets.

Specs are marked preliminary, but the publication dates are mid last year...

It's a surface mount Capacitor connected across the power and ground pins
of the LD...

Capacitors: they come in this housing (size0805) in capacities from 1pF to more than 1µF. You cant distinguish them visually, only with a cap-meter. I would use 100nF to 1µF. its not critical in this application, but 10nF or less would be pretty much useless. If you find them in an RF-circuit (perhaps you see some air core coils), or if they are white or pink then they are often small. The bigger ones are normally light brown and often beside bigger digital chips (but not the two beside an XTAL ;) ) you see, its not that easy.
But you cant do any harm with the wrong one, it just would be not effective as a surge protection.

..o..
o...o
yellow not used, this is correct right?

Great analysis. Error analysis would have been nice though.
