Merged 445nm Pictures and Video Thread

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

I have only seen red and green in person!

But hopefully today, I will see my first 445nm :yh:

Man I hope work flys by.

No 405nm? Have you ever worked with diodes before? Perhaps you should practice with a PHR diode first. You've got to be sooo careful when you work with them, taking ESD precautions and safety precautions.

Good luck with your build.

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

Pictures can be deceiving though. Looking at them side by side, does the 445nm diode seem closer to 405nm or 473nm?

Man I can't wait for mine! To date I've only ever seen 4 different wavelengths, now I get to add a fifth to the family.

This picture is very close to real life. Much closer than any other pictures I have seen. The only difference to real life is that the 405nm laser is not as bright. Very close to same color though.

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

It really looks kinda turqouise, but thats due to 473nm being closer to green than 445nm; in direct comparison you will notice the difference more than lookin at each one individual.

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

It is VERY true. I used to think my 473nm was very blue. Now when I look at it next to the 445nm it looks turqouis. It is pretty crazy how the color of my "blue" lasers (473nm) has changed in my mind. It has definetly been cornered into the "exotic Blue" category now.

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

Question, I just built mine and I'm so amazed, but when I shake the laser into a circle, sometimes its a solid circle, but other times its dashes which looks like its pulsed. I doubt I have a loose connection right? So I'm guessing this is the "multimode" aspect?

Are you using a flexdrive? They've been known to go pulsed when low on battery.

The problem you are having is the driver cutting out. Even if you have a fully charged battery this can happen. The diode will be drawing as much current as it can but if the capacity of the battery is too low to supply the driver it will begin to cut out. Are you useing a single cell LION like a CR123A or smaller?

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

im using three 10440s on a rkcstr in a big mxdl... maybe i haven't charged them in a while, idk... running at 420mA (was going to be for red, but tried on this instead).

edit: Thanks for the input though, and i'll try a different set of batteries tomorrow.

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

Got my Chrome pocket mini up and running. I originally was going to go for 800mW but the driver just wasn't getting enough juice from a single CR123A battery...well actually it was but only for a minute or two before it started to go pulsed. The laser is now happily set 660mW. It is a nice color. I love the brightness of the beam. I would be impressed with it's burning abilities if I didn't have an 850mW 405nm pocket mini already. Fun laser. Next up will be a focus apaptor for it.

That's probably too much voltage dude. These aren't blurays; they don't need the extra battery (not at 420mA anyway). You're probably killing your driver with the extra heat. I suggest taking out the 3rd battery then just wiring the contacts of that slot together.

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

I saw a 445 about a year ago when we ordered a unit at work to possibly replace our 457 DPSS units. The 457s are 300mW, the 445 was 300mW I think and we also got a 500mW 405 to test. I remember the 445 looking a lot more like the 405 than the 457 only a lot brighter. Anyone else notice this? The company who made the 405 and the 445 delivered them to us in a shotty manner and they were not up to our required specs and ended up being returned. Otherwise, I would certainly have been playing with them more.

Re: 445nm pictures

Dave what settings did you use on your camera to make it appear blue? or did you have to edit it on the computer?

No special work or adjustments were done. The camera was set on "auto landscape" W/ no flash. I just got lucky with the color. On my monitor, it looks prettey close to RL

Peace,
dave

Re: 445nm pictures

Hey, Diachi...
Please clean your room, this look kinda messy out there... Lol Just kidding you, my room is probably worse.

I lovesssssssssssssssssssssss the pics, i cant wait any longer on 445nm!
