LPC-840 discussion thread

I may not even use these. Haven't opened the package yet. May just write "LPC-840 x 2" on the envelope and let it sit forever.

Yeah I'm finding it hard to justify buying a driver for this diode, I have a spare host on hand but no driver.

Don't use these for builds you care about IMO. Just make some LM317 drivers or give these away to your friends who want to try it out.

Meh, I'm not quite ready to give up on these diodes yet. If you're going to shelf them would you consider sending me one? I'll pay you for the diode and the shipping envelope.

Pretty sad that the 10pk of diodes i got for 30$ can outdo these. Oh well, not like its a huge deal i guess.

Here is the diode PIV data, I apologize for the terrible handwriting and blurry picture. :p

You didn't see my handwriting:crackup:

I'm in the middle of moving, but looked in and see these diodes are crap. i'm gonna email techood, this is the first time I have been disappointed with them.
i killed mine outright due to stupidity or something...but still they are not the diodes advertised.

edit sent them a message stating these are not as advertised. i'll keep y'all posted

Looking forward to hearing back. I still haven't opened mine.

Similar results with mine. Died at just above 550mA. Didn't even pass the 300mW threshold. Underperformed an ML229U7, which costs $4 and has no issue exceeding 300mW.

these must be fakes.

Cheech did you get any kind of a response from them?

Mine arrive today. I have nothing to mount it in or drive it with yet though. I'll be purchasing a diode press set and bench ps in th coming weeks though and will keep you guys posted when I test it.

Chinese companies can sell fakes of a lot of stuff (phones, tablets, whatever), but laser diodes are different....I don't see a sweatshop (don't get offended here) buying a wafer fabricator- not only that, but then the machines to pick and place the tiny semiconductor chips and attach bond wires- not like you can do that by hand.

It's possible these are just a batch of diodes from mitsubishi that are rated much lower, but techhood has just mislabeled them- certainly wouldn't be the first time a chinese seller has done so.

Yeah, I doubt they're actually making clones but - as far as Chinese sellers misrepresenting, that happens A LOT - mainly because they know how prohibitive it is to send stuff back to China from here, and they'll count on people in the US just taking the loss instead.

A while back I 'tried' a listing for 200mW 635nm diodes... Sounded too good to be true, and they were. Ended up being 100mW 650nm. (of course.)

Tried to dispute with the seller but he ran out the clock with promises. (That one taught me to never 'take their word for it', pay attention to dispute time.)
