The Microboost was designed to run the higher power Blurays, (mainly 10x, 12x), as these started to require a higher output voltage than the 5.5V the Flexdrive could supply. Some of these BRs are going to the 7V area. Therefore the Microboost came about before the 445 diodes were even known about. The Flexdrive is fine for any 445nm diode as the forward voltage even at high power is only around 4.2V. The only limit is the current! At present we don't have a, "Just For 445nm", driver. I'm a looking forward to when we have one though!!!!

Can microboost be used for low powered diodes? Reds and PHRs? Will it not fry the LPC-815 with its low forward voltage requirement?

No, you need a groove or a rckstr. If you want to drive a red with a single rechargeable, the flexdrive is the only option that I know of.

Unfortunately you cannot use the microboost. Not because of the voltage. It would boost a 1.5V Battery to run a diode that is say around 3V. But the red uses a common ground negative pin and the microboost needs to have an isolated negative feed from the battery into the driver negative input. Since the negative pin on the diode is also a case pin meaning that it is in contact with the negative of the battery through the host. If you isolated your heatsink from the host it might work but that would be a pain on most hosts. The solution that Jayrob suggested for 445nm diode will not apply for LPC-815 since the case of LPC-815 IS the negative terminal in the diode and the bottom pin that is used as negative on most other diodes including the the 445 and 405 is just "hanging" there on the red diodes.... right? :)

For testing purposes few days ago I hooked the Microboost to LPC-815 directly in a lab-build manner. It worked fine. I just started to question whether it is safe to use a boost drive on low powered diodes after reading the comments. In layman terms Microboost will provide the voltage the diode requires. It will also boost from lower voltage input to higher output if need be.

Sounds about right. The groove 2 is great for these LOC's. Have built a few with them. I like to take a 3XAAA holder and use one of my custom AAA dummy battery I made for my eBay pens with two other 10440's in series. It will give you 8.4V fully charged.

I read somewhere that the pre-orders were already receiving v5s. If you were not on the list, you might be SOL.
 
I would guess that he is making sure he has enough in stock that when he updates his site with them as available they don't sell out in 5 minutes.;)
