It is not "worse" it just isn't as powerful. I have used this diode many times. I have a couple for sale right now. Get your driver set at 100mA-120mA. That will give you 70mW-90mW. That is plenty to "burn" stuff with. Set it to 110mA for longer life. The biggest challenge with these is getting it out of that silly half round heat sink. Beyond that treat it just like any other violet diode.

Hi,i was just wondering if there was a way to pay through paypal? i would like 1 Flexdrive set at 125ma for a blu-ray and 1 glass lense housing. if possible that would be great! :)

Got my drivers today made a nice blu-ray leadlight but i never got the free bonus after waiting like 2 mouths.

Hi, i accidentaly soldered a huge blob of solder on flex drive, then cleaned it and tested, it worked. then i connected it to board, glued and tested usimg superbright LED as dummy load. LEss than 1mA is flowing throught LED and it's very dim if connected to possitive output of driver, but if i connect it just before the positive input of driver, it shines brightly again. So do you think i killed it somehow, presumably by heat? or is it possible that something is soldered wrong? (btw the current was pre-set at 130mA)

depends... Lavadrives require a load be connected. If you powered it up loadless, you've likely killed it. Otherwise, you may still have a solder bridge somewhere.

Well yeah, thanks :/ i spose it could be damaged by loadless powering, but then, I did that accidentally to my previous flex drive few times and it worked ok, it was set to lower current thought.
whenever i connect possitive LED wire before or on the driver input, it shined brightly, even if i connect it before the silicon diode or whatever it is, it shines brightly (bright white spots on pic). But when i connect it to any other places on driver, diode is dim (dim white spots on pic). I even tried to turn pot a little and the LED connected to "dim spots" shines little brighter than before
Blob of solder i accidentaly created and hopefully cleaned is shown as grey field. I repaired the bridge for higher range and checked if there are any solder joins which should'nt be there. MAYBE theres one between the first part(sillicon diode?) and the unmarked black box in the middle, but i dont know. So what do you think, is there any way to fix it? :D

You have nothing to lose by trying. But as the driver is 12x12mm and reflow soldered, it won't be an easy fix, even if all the components are fine. Something to try-

Connect a 1 ohm, 1 watt resistor in series with your 'test diode'. Measure the voltage across this resistor to see how much current the driver is delivering to the load. This is more precise than just using an LED. You may also wish to use an ammeter to check the current going into the driver as a short there is a safety hazard. It can cause unprotected batteries to catch fire!
Basically, if it's just a solder-bridge you may be able to fix it. Otherwise you'll likely have to ask DrLava's help.
