Whether it kills them depends on what max current they are rated for.... If they can take 120mA then that should be OK but plain ol diodes are the most universal solution.
BluRay, you would want 6.5V or more to power the 4x (5-5.5V) with a Groove driver. The Grooves can be set from a few tens of mA to 550mA.
