Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groove

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

Yeah it probably would be a good idea to use the diode even with primaries.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

the 3.25v was just 1 batt and i had a diode in line with it while it was hooked to the driver. i didnt mess the drivers up b/c of voltage tho.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

i was playin around with the ol' box of resistors and found 3 191k omh in series will bring the voltage of 2 10440 down to around 5.3v. any1 got some layin around to confirm it?

Voltage drop will vary with current draw, which for the Lavadrive will vary depending on the output current setting and the input voltage (higher input than output voltage means lower input than output current and vice versa).

Also, you will want to make sure the power handling of the resistors is enough to handle however much power the resistors are dissipating.

Can calculate as P = I^2 * R  or P=V^2 / R or P = V * I

You can calculate the resistance you need for a voltage drop at a given current just by using Ohm's Law (2.9V drop at 150mA with fresh charged batteries putting out 8.4V lavadrive voltage output ~= input, for 803T), but remember the Lavadrive is a step up/down circuit and the input current will vary with voltage, as mentioned previously:

V= I * R
2.9V = 0.150A * Rx
Rx = 2.9V /0.150A
Rx = 19.3ohm or ~20ohm

You're likely getting the drop you are at ~600kohm because the multimeter is acting as the load and draws VERY little current.

Those resistors will end up wasting power. Better to just get some rectifier diodes. The 50 or something of them I got off eBay were pretty cheap.

yeah but then you have to use a series of 5 or more of them to get the voltage down to something that the lava drive can handle if you are using two batteries that could potentially push 8v when fully charged.

so... is there a rectifying diode that will cut more than 0.5v?

WOOOO HOOOO!! got it!! this thing is SCHWEEEET!!! cant wait to see what im gunna do with it. Thanks for all the work KENOM, it was well worth it I would say.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

Is there any chance of me getting my name on a list for one of these or have they all been spoken for?

i found this on digi-key:

kenom im itching to get those barrels. i cant thank you enough for the work you did on this.

Ya hafta post pictures of what you build out of it being the first one.... Err, I seem to recall that I might have let that one slip outta my hands without tapping the threads for the lens. Please verify that the lens screws in EASILY. if it's difficult at all, it's not tapped and you may have to send it back... *prays*

They are all spoken for sorry.

<-- Cries a little while waiting for the third run :'(

Oh well, sign me up for your next interest feeler.

So have you got completion time from the anodizers yet? Can't wait!

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

Just put a few of those 1N400x rectifying diodes in series... they cost like 3 cents each or something, and they each drop about 0.6-0.7V. You can literally pick up 500 of them for $8 from Mouser.com.
