LAb C-Mount Housing

Very nice little review Lazereer and thanks much!:beer::beer:

I'm going to have to pick up a couple...Something may have to be done with the lens issue though, perhaps making a custom ring to hold a like sized lens that you could thread farther into the unit to get it closer to the diode. I'm also wondering about the heat-sink and how much it can take....in my c-mount research i'm seeing a lot of TEC units, this may be enough though for a 1-2 watt c-mount....(perhaps someone with more knowledge can chime in)
There may also be room for a prism pair with some modifications.

So I finished Up my Lab Heatsink and Adapter for the lenses today and Took some Pictures of the Set up.:)

Here is the Basic Idea what its Going to look Like inside the Housing. I forgot to dd the Lens in the picture but it would screw into the Lens Adapter in front of the Laser diode Module.

The Heatsink for the Laser diode and Module. This is One of my Designs that I started to Do when there is No Other Way in Making a Direct Press Fit Heatsink. The Reason I do this like this is because yeah i could have simple Bored out all the Way through the Heatsink to let the Aixiz Module slide in and Out like a Traditional Heatsink but doing this would have took Out quit a Bit of Aluminum thus Reducing the Mass which i did not want to do especially in a Lab that will be running For some time.

So Making this Pocket to Hold the Module in works Great..

So I then as you see in this Picture I only Bord out a 5mm hole for the wires to come through.

Here you can see what i did to the Module. I Enlarged the opening of the module to allow the lens to come in and out freely rather then screw in since the lens is attach to the front piece of the housing.

Module Pressed in to the Pocket. when boring out the Hole to hold the module i used a 11.9mm bit. This made the Module Press fit.

I left Just enough space there to be able to Module my X-Drive in that packet. I will then fill it with black Potting to make it look nice.

Hooked the wire up and ran them through the heatsink.

Add thermal past for better heat transfer.

Then I connected my X Drive and Using 2x 18650 i powered it up.:) Iam waiting for my 7.5v power supply/Wlwart to cme in. :)

When i get the Walwart in i will update the thread with the Final Results.

So I fired it up running at 1350mA doing ~1.3W:

I ran it for about 10 minutes with No Problem but did feel the Housing getting warm.

Im very happy with this Housing now.:)

Very nice!!! These housing are pretty cool...I ordered two of them direct from laserlands, should see them in a month;) I'v been on a lab style build kick of late, this will be a nice addition!

I WANT A LATHE!!!!.....and a place to put it!!

Also Guys i did a Long LPM test with the Lab and Iam Pretty happy with the Results.:)

Driver is Set to 1.28A and Running off 2x 18650 since my New power supply is still not here yet.:(

Also i recently Upgraded my LPM to a Ophir Head.:wave: I have not put it into housing yet and its Just Loose right now but man I can tell you i love this thing. The responce time is amazing.:) Iam going to be purchasing Lasersbee's Data-loggers to add to the meter when I put it into the housing for Graphs and Data-logging but thats another thread. Glad he came out with that.

Man this is pro stuff, im totally getting one.. as soon as i get my job.. XD
And for a 445 <1W build it will be ideal i guess.. long live the high power diodes.. All hail !

Congratzz lazeerer, u got a nice build there & nice video.. and a really nice lpm, where can i get that lpm one ..Do they accept credit cards..?? (no paypal)
 
I received mine today, and I started to play with some of the C-Mounts from Chris, that I'd never really had the ability to test.

I've found that Chris's markings are often confusing, and the power indications are often a bit unpredictable, but long story short - I have some C-Mounts labelled "7W" and some labelled "4W".

Of course, I tried the "7W" diodes first. Bench PSU, started ramping the current, they started lasing around 4A, 50mW or so of output, I maxed out my bench supply at 5A, and was only getting ~250mW of output. Bummer.

Then I tried the lower powered "4W" diodes in this housing. Again, ramped the current. By the time I maxed out my bench at 5A, these diodes in this housing were producing 1800mW of collimated output (measured on my LPM about 2 feet away).

I can't wait to get some drivers that can exceed 5A so I can really put this housing to the test with the "7W" diodes.

Wouldn't 2 Flexmods in parallel work for that?
