I only used One lens. I removed the one that comes with it.:)

Do you think by any chance you would have room for an anormorphic prism somewhere if you mod the heatsink? That would be awesome :D
 
Its Possible. But everything would be a tight fit and would have to use a smaller heatsink.
 
Hm, ok :)

Come to think of it, have you thought of attatching a fan to the back of the module? That would IMO make it look a bit cooler and ovbiously keep air moving along the heatsink which will ovbiously allow for an extra few minutes of run-time.

I dont have any Prisms yet But i would Have to re measure everything, but as a guess the would have to be ~10mm. Plus you would have to make some Kind of flat bottom to Rest them on inside the heatsink. Like Cut a Round stock in Half. But with the right tools it can be done.

Yes, Iam searching to find one with no Luck.:( I have tried a A-I40 fan but its too big.

I think it will sound and Look Cooler too. Plus perform better.:)
 
Hm, you know what, A fan on the top would probably work better since not all the air is going to be running right across the module :D 2 or 3 fans ontop would look awesome! You might even be able to find some LED fans in the size your looking for, that would be sweet!
 
Just got a couple that I ordered in the mail today. They are nice little units, heavier than I though they would be...as well as smaller.
The lens goes pretty deep into the unit, seems to hit about 5cm or so from the diode mount(just by eye). About the lens i'm not sure...seems to be multiple element but for what wavelength i'm not sure.
I'm working on another fun C-mount project right now, but after I'll give this one a try with some IR diodes that I have.:beer:

Edit: So pics....I threw in an abused 808nm C-mount. On a side note, i'm very surprised that this diode still works. I'v had to re-solder the negative lead to it 4 times, one time after ripping it off once again installing it into this unit.
The pictures aren't that great, but at least my camera pics up the IR. As far as the lens goes, I tried messing about with it and really it seems to just cut the wings off the beam.
Now this diode is not FAC corrected so i'm not really expecting it to do much so far away from the diode.

If you want I can Make you some Kind Of Spacer that will connect to the front of the Stock Focusing ring and at the other end be close to the diode and thread that end for say an Aixiz Lens Nut etc.

Just like the Spacer i did for mine but longer.:) You would have to remove the original lens that came with the lab housing though.

This way you are not loosing alot of Power.


How is the Heat with the Stock Heatsink.?

Well the Heatsink seems fine, I didn't leave it running for a long time though. As far as a spacer I may take you up on that at some point. Right now I'm just using some 1.5W 808's that I have.
I wish I had some 200mW reds to play with, a bit easier to see. Right now I have to use the camera on my phone to see the output of the IR's.
These little lab style host's are nice, and I think have a lot of uses. Nice work on your mods as well!
 
Hello I just wanted to post this latest build with one of these lab hosts.

I used the housing from one of my C-mount host and had Lazeerer make me up a heatsink set-up for it.

He was kind enough to include a FREE X-Drive with it and I used it in the build.

I made a little housing for the drive(set at 1745mA). It sits on a piece of aluminum for heatsinking and includes the snazzy on/off switch.;)
The drive is a linear drive so I would need two Lithium Ions. I decided to go with a wallwart. Set at 7.5V it gives 2.5A, seems to work just fine.......(it is regulated).

Okay on to some pics and a short LPM reading. Thanks for looking, these host have some real great uses for DIY laser set-ups and Very Easy to use. The inside heat-sink is the same looking set-up that Lazeerer made in this thread.

^^^ Great build Buddy and nice power.:gj: It came out nice. How do you like the focusing with the o-ring in place.? Much better huh.?

I would like to mention to you that The X-Drive is NOT a Linear Driver. The X-Drive is a Buck Driver and is why its so efficient.:D

These are great housings. I love the size of them.
