It has not been tested with 980nm specifically yet, but as with any thermal based meter it should be able to handle it just fine.

The spectral response of the sensor is quite good, however I don't have every nm under the sun to test it with. Based on my range of tested wavelengths I will guarantee it to work within the ranges stated. If you find your sensor to not work properly within the spectrum listed you can return your meter for a full refund including shipping.
