Help ball mill power source

Hey guys im making a ball mill and I have this electric engine I got from my old scooter...well i was wondering if there was a simple circuit i could make that uses a 9v dc wall adapter thing and plugs into the circuit that could make it run at 15-20 volts for 24 hrs without burning any circuit ..(or my house)
Also I wanted the circuit to have a pot so i could adjust the rpm ..

I feel you're going to have some troubles running this off a standard 9v wall wart... Most of which are rated at 500mA or so... You're going to need something at least 20x more powerful. You might want to try a PC's ATX power supply or like a laptop power adapter instead...

Also, 2750 RPM is pretty fast for milling things, I think you're going to want to look at some gears to step down the speed a bit... All in all, you may want to look at finding a different motor.
 
I know DIY things are usually cheaper and the whole "I built it from scratch" feeling is great, but sometimes it is easier to just buy a complete unit.

Couldn't I Just use a lower voltage or something? A 9v battery made it go already :D
 
a computer psu would probably be fine to make it go, 5 volts is probably plenty and the psu will supply it with enough current to give it some torque
 
Hey i finally found an old comp and took the power supply from it but there at TRILLIONS of wires...any help so that i could wire a positive and negative to my ball mill?

The yellow wires are from the 12V line on the PSU, which is usually the one that can supply more current, you might need to solder the brown (sense) wires to the orange (3.3V) from the PSU to make it work.

More probably, for make it smoke :p

The wire for remote turn-on is the green one, and for turn the PSU on, you need to connect it with the ground.
 
Wait, i just looked better that PSU ..... it's AT, not ATX ..... old type, you don't need to short together any wire with any other, for make it work (sorry, my fault, i had to look at it better :p)

Just use the black and yellow wires (all the black ones are in common, and are the negative, or GND ..... all the yellow wires are in common, and are the +12V)

Just ignore the other colors.
 
So to sum it up just use the black and yellow wire to power my motor?
How much voltage ect will it supply to my motor?
 
12 Volt ..... all the wires of the same colors are connected to the same output, inside the PSU (are all in common) ..... black and red is 5 Volt, black and yellow is 12 Volt, ignore the others, cause are low current negative voltage (ofcourse, black is always negative, where yellow is +12V and red is +5V)

And, as it say in the pic, you can draw a maximum of 9 Ampere using 12V, and a maximum of 23 Ampere using 5V.

NEVER use yellow and red without black, and never short circuit different colors, and you're ok.

ooh ok so all the colored wires like yellow are the same right so i can just cut all the other yellow wires and use just one same with black?
And would happen to know where i can buy the psu cable so i can plug it in the wall the old comp i salvaged it from didnt have one
...

Any electric / electronic shops have those cables, are becoming almost universal.

And about the wires, no, is better that you use all the ones of the same colours together, cause the section of a single wire can also not be enough for carry all the current that this motor need ..... and is better that you just insulate the other wires, instead cut them (as example, if you see that with 12V it run too fast, you can always try with 5V ..... but you can't, if you've already cut away the wires :))
