Hey there boys and 2-3 girls..
I am currently going through what I believe to be the very worst hangover of my life. Since I woke up this afternoon I have been close to emptying my stomach all over the place whenever I move around and I am in constant pain. I know people who whine about hangovers deserve the pain as a punishment for drinking too much and are annoying to listen to, but I was wondering if any of you have tips for overcoming/avoiding hangovers, besides not drinking.

Personally I:
Drink water before going to bed.
Drink milk.
Eat fruit.
Get a lot of rest.

I know most tricks to overcome a hangover don't really work but some I have tried do in fact lessen the pain.. So any advice is very welcome.

I heard if you eat something fatty, it will reduce the headaches and nausea.

The pain of a hangover is caused mostly by dehydration so drinking water or other fluids during and after should help. Other than this, ibuprofen and relaxing are the only other ways I'd expect to help, unless you consider the placebo effect to be actually relieving the pain.

(Also, don't consume stuff that would leave a stain, should it come back up again ;))

Seriously Jaseth, if you're able to and you don't have to drive, or work, or do anything major then a small amount of alcohol can help. This isn't a trick to make you feel worse, honestly.

The reason it works is because it tricks the body into dealing with the new intake of alcohol. Up to that point the liver is busy breaking down some of the poisonous byproducts of the alcohol you consumed last night. The processing of byproducts and not alcohol give you the hangover. By deceiving the liver, it slows the breakdown of the byproducts and lessens their toxic effects. It takes longer to get over the hangover but it may be more bearable. If you have a bottle of beer handy, (and you can stomach it!), I'd get it down your neck.

Good luck buddy, we've all been there!!!

mix a fresh cows tounge with tomato juce in a blender and drink it down :barf:

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I am drinking a lot of water and milk and have also had some spaghetti with a few vegetables and cheese.. it is actually helping.

@Morgan: Yes thanks for the advice :) I have tried this before and it does help somewhat - in Denmark we even have a name for it. "Reperations bajer" which means "reperation beer". Only problem is I am pretty sure I would get a déjà vu with my food if the smell of beer even got close to my nostrils.

Try spiking yourself so you don't notice!

Look the other way and poor a little brandy in your milk!

If you want a drink that actually tastes great AND settle your stomach then heat the milk a little in the microwave; add some sugar or better yet some syrup; add 1 or 2 shots of the brandy. Another fine hangover cure.

Can you tell that I've been through this a few times? :drunk:

Look after yourself.

A good meal the same night as you get drunk (usually MC Donald's or similar), then the next morning another good meal (if you believe you can keep it down). I don't know why this works, but I works for me. If I feel sick I take a long shower till I feel little better.

In my experience once the hangover has taken effect the only way to get rid of it is with drugs (hydrocodone) or more alcohol.
All the "tricks" usually come before you start the drinking, during, and right after. Not the next day.

Students -- If you will observe closely you can actually see the beginning of the alcoholics' downward spiral here

Take the hit and learn from it. Your body is trying to tell you something. Trust an old man here. It is MUCH more fun (and profitable in more ways than one) to be the only sober one at the party

Peace,
dave

I never get hangovers.

Even once I got so smashed my friends were considering hospital, I still woke up the next morning 6 hours later feeling absolutely fine.

It's a shame though since I almost never drink, don't really like the taste and I'd rather save the money for... well, lasers. I drink maybe once a year, my genes would be better off with someone who drinks more frequently, lol.

At least he didn't suggest for Jaseth to smoke some weed. LOL

Sleep, and lots of it.

ugh, i HATE being the only sober person at a party....i find drunk people quite annoying if i am not drunk myself....otherwise i love em.

Basicly time, and fluids are the cure for a hang over..

I hear the best way to cure a hang over is to receive an IV and get fluids that way.....this cures your dehydration very quickly and thus is said to be a miracle cure for the hang over.
