Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! GET EM WHILE THEY LAST

So how long should these last at 200mA?
I will probably set mine at 180mA just to be safe...
That should give me a lot of power with Igor's custom optics.

rkcstr - Many thanks for posting these data's, now I know for sure what I am expecting to receive for myself.

No problem... just be aware that I can't really guarantee that they're super accurate. It was more so just a rough estimate to get an idea of what they can do. I'll wait for someone with some more sophisticated equipment to give better results.

-AMK-

You have me down for 4 on this run, please put me in for another 4, for a total of 8.

When should I expect my 4 from the first run? and did you put the tracking this time around for Canada?

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! GET EM WHILE THEY LAST

Looks like mine will be here on Tuesday.. I'm anxious to hook two up to my diode tester, and let them run continuously at 200mA.

I was torturing my 6x in the meanwile, but it looks like that was kinda pointless now. Luckily it is still holding up, putting out the same power as before after many long runs.

Otherwise, why are some of you so worried about duty cycle? It's not like we don't use heatsinks.

If you have a properly heatsinked laser with an over-overdriven diode, but use it with a 1 minute duty cycle, it will just take longer in days, for you to realize you killed it, simply because you force yourself to use it less. The number of hours will still be the same, or it could even be shorter, because of more power-up/down related stresses. In fact, a cold diode can actually die at a lower current, than a warm diode, because it will put out more power, and it's their output power, that kills them.

The idea of a short duty cycle comes from green laser pens, where a 0.5W pump has to work with barelly more heatsinking, than an AixiZ module. There the diode can actually overheat.

If you want to learn how long a diode will survive a certain power, you have to leave it on, even better, with a circuit, that turns it off and back on every once in a while, to stress it more.. It's the only way to learn what will happen up front, without waiting for lasers to start dying.

Amk, got mine today! Now I know what I'll be doing tonight! :D

Igor, please tell us what the details of your 6X 'torture test' were! (I must have missed it)

Also looking forward to your test results of this new diode... :)

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! GET EM WHILE THEY LAST

I've read 20 or more posts back, I don't think I missed anything about payment, was there any updates on paying for batch 3 ?

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! GET EM WHILE THEY LAST

i got mine today.. i extracted one sled and now i just need to remove the heatsinking tomorrow...

the the other 2 as the tests go on :)

Great sk8! Can't wait... ('he's a poet and didn't know it, but his feet show it... they're Longfellow's. But he'll out grow it') Lol!

Looking forward to your findings! :)

got mine today as well. thanks AMK 8-)

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! GET EM WHILE THEY LAST

Here's my first dead one

The diode was in an AixiZ module using an acrylic lens.  The module was in a good heat sink.  I used a Rkcstr driver and a bench PSU set at 9V.  I started around 155mA because I knew we weren't interested in running these any lower.  I only turned the laser on for about 10-20 seconds at each current.  After I got above 270mA the current would just continue to climb the longer I left the laser on.  When I got above 300mA the current was climbing fairly rapidly.  I decided at that point that it would just commit suicide at that rate so I went back to where the current was steady.  I let it run at 270mA (210mW) until it died.  That only took 90 seconds to LED.  I'm sure that I hurt it with the high current, so I don't know if it would have survived at 270mA.  Probably not ;)  The entire test took just over 30 minutes from first lase to LED

Nice work, Dave. As always!

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! GET EM WHILE THEY LAST

has anyone looked at the diode and compared the bar printed on the bottom side to a 6x?

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! GET EM WHILE THEY LAST

Good work Dave...

I see that your diode was the same at 200mA's as the others. But for some reason, at the higher currents, like 250mA's, it was below the others by about 15 mW's or so.

Maybe because it was kind of 'limping' from how you 'hurt' it at over 300mA's! ;D

The bottom of my original 6X is buried

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! GET EM WHILE THEY LAST

ok so I updated batch 3, and the payment page is up. Link as follows:

http://amk123.110mb.com/6x.htm

Please pay ASAP if you are in batch 3. No more orders will be accepted for batch 3. Save your new orders for batch 4!!

regards,

amk
