GB: PL450B SM diodes - CLOSED

Re: double GB: PL450B SM diodes round2: 40$ each && Mits500 MM diodes 76$ each

Knocking the price down is very good. My order of two 500mW diodes stand firm.

Crap!!! Friggin someone slap me!!! I killed one allready!!! AND I was being so carefull! I went to insert the heatsink and it was tight and got stuck tried to knock it out and my module fell out hit the floor yanked the diode out of the module and it was officially dead... Damn I had a whole nother build to show off tonight... I had it all tested at 208ma 5.8-6.4V on a OVP benboost and it was working untill assembly failed.. My fault I forgot them heatsinks needed to be sanded.. Dont forget to check all your fits before you build... Guess that's why I baught three!!! :P

Serial Diode Killer Strikes Again...

Campfire by 2.9W 9mm 445....

EDIT: Well I may not have killed the diode not sure yet. just pulled it off the driver and tested the driver and i am not getting any current.. So maybe I just buggered up the driver will have to check it out after work It has OVP so I shouldnt have killed the driver if the diode died... Here's hoping!!!

It Lives!!! Just got to test out the dropped diode and it is fine.. It was the driver that died.. So I may have another build with this one soon...

HERE IS THE BUILD>>> http://laserpointerforums.com/f40/new-450-build-76909.html#post1106397

Glad to hear it. I'd like to hear from more of you about this (getting the Mits500s from DTR vs. consolidating the shipments [reducing prices by 2$ per diode])

Update on the second round of the PL450B GB: So far I've heard back from two people who got their round1 diodes; once I hear back from the others I'll officially open round2. Here's hoping we'll be able to reach the MOQ (which is 20pcs this time) nearly as quickly as we did in round1...

Got my first SM 450nm build completed just now. I gotta say I really like these diodes. They are NOT the same color as the high powered 445nm diodes we are used to. When shined beside a 400mW 445nm the color of the beam appears to be much more blue and it makes the 445nm beam look as though it is violet. It also appears to be nearly the same brightness despite being only 190mW. Not to mention the amazingly tight beam divergence. LOVE IT!!!

Happy to report my diodes arrived today! Thanks dyeote! +1

Poll: what are you guys using for drivers on these osrams? I killed my last one using a benboost; not interested in trying that again. going Buck, Boost, or what ? which product and current set to?

I intend to use an AtMa-boost driver set to 190mA on mine; I'll post my build results once I get some time to actually make the laser...

Re: double GB: PL450B SM diodes round2: 40$ each && Mits500 MM diodes 76$ each

Careful with that one. The Benboost and the Atma are pretty much the same and I personally had a HORRIBLE experience with the ATMA driver. I had 3 of them and all 3 drivers massacred all 3 of the 12X diodes I had them hooked up to. MAJOR voltage spikes. Pretty fucked up. I wasn't too pleased. Not only was I out $140 for the cost of the diodes but I also paid for the drivers which were responsible for this. If I were you I would throw the Atma drivers away now and save yourself the money and headache.

I am using a 250mA buck driver that I modified down from 1.25A. It is cheap and easy.

Nice. Did not know those would work on the lower power diodes.

Yea mine turned up today.
Thanks Dyeote.. +1

Re: double GB: PL450B SM diodes round2: 40$ each && Mits500 MM diodes 76$ each

A note for anyone who might be interested in round2: if it looks like we can get to the MOQ of 20pcs for both the Osrams and the Mits500s at about the same time, then we can consolidate the shipments after all (i.e. get the mits500s through my supplier instead of DTR's); this will have the benefit of knocking the price per diode down a bit (to: 38$ and 75$) and of allowing anyone who intended to get both kinds to save some money on shipping.
Let me know what you think about this; if the majority prefers to go ahead with the split-GB format; then we can do that regardless of 'MOQ attainment time' ;)
This is your GB people, I'm just working to present you with the best options, so please feel free to feedback

Will you be able to provide the extra services DTR would (preinstalled in module with leads)?

Re: double GB: PL450B SM diodes round2: 40$ each && Mits500 MM diodes 76$ each

If anyone wants one of these buck drivers at 250mA send me a PM. Total price for the modified driver with wires attatched is $10 shipped. Just be careful when choosing your drivers. There are some out there that are basically poison to your laser diodes.

Re: double GB: PL450B SM diodes round2: 40$ each && Mits500 MM diodes 76$ each

Just curious, I have been searching for a thread but couldn't find one. Does anybody know of a thread that explains the difference between the PL450 and PL450B? I know on ebay one is rated for 50-80mW while the other says 80-100mW. But if I have a PL450 diode, what would one suggest as a reasonable range of current for driving it at "high" powers?
