FS: "Hot Fusion Skyray" - 635nm 425mW Build

Thank you! I to may use my 9000 polaris to inpress my friend and I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the power myself.Yes I use the right googles and I'm VERY aware of the potencial of eye damage.Thank you for your reply,It helps me to understand your concerns, ect,!!!

My specific question to you Via PM was simply why one 500mw had the power to burn but your 500mw red laser would not! This simply a techincal question . I have a background in electrical. I thought one of the reasons of this forum was education and infomation fo ones who share a common interest of lasers.

I'm seriously going to go find a cave and just disappear into it.

If you find a nice one let me know and I'll tag along. I caught hell in another thread recently for a similar reaction as yours, heh.

Btw, I still can't find that host for sale anywhere, any chance of a direct link?

Just spent a bit of time on amazon too... can't find it:(

Can you link directly to it please?

Lol - you guys are really blood thirsty!

Here here!

Btw thanks for the link RHD! How was the torch as a torch (flashlight) btw? or did you even bother turning it on before gutting the beauty? Hehe.

Burning stuff, popping balloons, lighting matches, etc. are NOT frowned on by the forum

Some members have a problem with it

MANY, MANY enthusiasts come to the laser hobby through the venue of burning stuff.

The forum does NOT look down on the entry point for many a fine laserist that started this way

Peace,
dave

But I do, and I think most of the forum does, look down on new users that emerge and ask questions that are easily addressed with some independent research.

I'd even say that I'm pretty forgiving about the search vs. ask scenario. I recognize that sometimes you don't even know enough about a new topic to identify useful phrases to search with. But a question like "does this burn" is absolutely at the easiest end of the "can I figure this out on my own" scale. There are dozens of threads here about what various output powers are capable of, lots of discussion about the absorption of different wavelengths, lengthy debate (and criticism) about the beam characteristics of high powered 635nm lasers, and most importantly, lots and lots of practical experience echoed in video, text, and photographs.

For me, it's not some high-minded or elitist disdain for people that "dare waste my time on something they could figure out themselves". That doesn't bother me. I'm happy to answer easy questions. After all, easy questions are the quickest and easiest to answer :)

My issue, is that if someone isn't willing to do the most basic of investigation themselves, that is indicative of the fact that they don't really take this stuff seriously enough to seek a thorough understanding of what they're getting themselves into. If they'll ask to be spoon fed the most readily available of information, then there's likely nothing that they're actually looking up on their own. If they'll throw out questions like "does this burn", then I seriously doubt that they are spending the rest of their time researching appropriate safety precautions, hazards associated with high powered lasers, etc. That ^ is not the type of person that I would ever want purchasing a laser from me.

Asking about "burning" and asking question that have come before are not the same thing

You have just been here long enough now to become frustrated with the "entry level" nature of this forum.

Teachers, professors, salespeople, and trainers all have to deal with the same questions over and over and over again.

This may not be your personality and you have the right to be whoever you are.

However, to generalize your feelings to the entire forum is not valid

There are over 24,000 members here
I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of them have burned their fair share of stuff ;)

If you are becoming frustrated, ignore the NooB's questions

There are other members more suited to provide introductory education than you

Peace,
dave

You're mischaracterising my concern. I think I addressed that I have no issue with "entry level" questions here:

And for that matter, where did I "generalize your feelings to the entire forum"? I don't believe I did that anywhere.

What you have to understand is that this is an FS thread, and there are two sides to a transaction. In addition to everything else, someone who is selling something needs to be comfortable with the buyer. Maybe some people on this forum don't take this as seriously - but I do. I frequently turn down sales to members who give me the impression that they don't have an appreciation for the power, danger, and appropriate safety precautions associated with high powered lasers.

Sorry Dave, but someone who jumps into a sales thread for a half watt laser and says nothing but point-blank "does this burn?" is not the type of person that I want to sell a high powered laser to. This has nothing to do with any frustration over "entry level" forum members, for I harbor no such frustration.

The vast majority of "entry level" forum members in fact DO search for knowledge themselves. Make no mistake, this behaviour of jumping in on an FS thread and saying "does this burn??" is not an "entry level member" characteristic. To suggest so, is demeaning to all the new members that actually DO evidence a real legitimate interest in researching and understanding this hobby.
