I stumbled upon some information, that is making me start to doubt, that the GGW 6x i use is the 105mW Sharp diode we have a known datasheet of...
Turns out Sharp announced a 250mW pulsed diode for 6x Blu Ray writer drives, at a time the LG drive was already in production.
This explains why, while comparing my old 6x to the 100mW Nichia i immediatelly got the feeling the 6x is tougher, even tho they should have been the same, if the GGW was 105mW...
They also said, that they are working on a 300mW pulsed diode for 8x drives, which confirms my suspicion, that the 150mW Nichia diode, if real, should be pretty much the same thing as an 8x.....
I just hope they get here quickly so i can test them! Unfortunatelly someone made a big shipping mistake, and used Priority instead of Express which i paid for. Priority Flatrate for US to Slovenia packages is pretty much the worst option there is. The cheapest shipping is actually faster!
So i ordered a third test diode to be shipped to Glenn, for him to ship it to me with proper express..
At this point the experiment is becoming expensive, if the diode should turn out to be a dud. But then again, i spent pretty much all the lazor money on various experiments (Never had a way of getting it out of PP anyway) If it is real, then i won't mind getting three tho..
We shall see. I just hope they get here soon.
Anyway, this "new" (for me) info makes me see the 6x's in a whole new light. No wonder they are so hard to kill! I'm guessing they must be 125mW CW/250mW pulsed rated diodes, and not 105mW/210mW as originally assumed...
