A lot of people, including myself, have been waiting for the "no splatter" lens. Keep up he good work Igor. You have the support of many people here.

Great! That is good to hear! It's been my favorite from the start (as soon as i saw the splatter on the other one).

I can have them professionally mounted in custom made metal lens nuts (= fit AixiZ and accept a focusing ring on top) in the manufacturer's own clean-rooms (= no mess guaranteed, perfectly clean lenses) for around $30 i think.. If only we can buy 250+ that is. Altho i'll be buying many myself....

I apologize for off-topic post guys, but I really need to thank IgorT here in public.Awhile ago,he asked me if I could help him,to get v#3 modules from the shop and to return the favor,he offered to build me a special 6xBluRay with v#3 module.
Few days later,he called me and said "if you want I can send you my personal 260mW BR to play with while you wait for your laser." Next day laser was in my hands.Boy,I couldn't wait for sun to go down,so that I could test this beast.I didn't want to play with it indors, because 260mW is seriuos $hit and I quickly get headache and sore eyes if I use BR indoors too much.
Anyways, let me tell you a little bit about this BR laser. It's a v#1 module in Rominsen host with 6x BR diode set to 230mW(260mW after lens) and it also has a custom built (medium) glass lens which can be focused very easily. This lens produces a very tight and round beam with almost no splatter or any other undesired effects. However,I suspect that this BR laser did see his share of use/abuse,because threads are a bit worn out and focus ring has a little play, but nothing major.

So,thank you Igor for lending me your personal laser and to "ease my pain" while I wait for my laser...YOU ROCK!!! :gj: :thanks:
MetalFlame, I would really like to get my hands on that lens. I got a short fl glass lens from Jayrob, but it still has a lot of splatter and when I defocus it, the beam is skinny and the splatter gets worse. I really need a medium fl lens like you have. Just a clean beam. I definitely want to get one of these when they are available to us folks.

Well, then how bout a test buy? ;)

Then you guys, who have both can see the same difference i've been seeing since i've received the latest custom lenses.... Then we can make a better GROUP DECISION for the final step!

Because the splatter you are seing is the same thing that's been holding me back all that time (my highest power custom lens brings the same results as the lenses you are testing)... Like i said, i was worried what people would think seeing the splatter...

It's not the lense's fault as much as the diode's... They are simply not as far evolved as the reds are. With a red the shortest FL lenses make a pretty beam only the lines on the sides of the slow axis get longer.... With 405nm's the rectangular projection on one of the fast axis sides becomes LARGER... It's the same thing actually, only more bothersome to look at... :(

But with the medium lens, i can't see it. No more than with an AixiZ lens. I have to LOOK for it by shining the beam past a piece of paper... Otherwise the glow hides it cos it's so small... Way too much to explain, but i'll have to and that's why i'm making that drawing..

Traveller: But i DO expect YOU to see it, because as you already know, it is present with all lenses, only the size changes depending on the FL.. Since you can see it even with an AixiZ lens (you must have good eyes!), you are sure to see it with the medium lens.. For us "normal" folks it will be as unnoticable as with AixiZ lenses, but we'll get a thinner rounded off beam of a considerably higher power.. :D

I'd like to be in on that 'test buy' Igor...

Just let me know!

:thanks:

Gaah! I said i need to stop posting and get to work!

But! Not before revealing my latest and final step in the evolution of my classic laser...

For now these will have to do. I don't have time to write on the ones that need explaining, just yet...

Behold! The v3 All-In-One Heatsink/Module.

The ultimate, final, perfected one. What the v1 was pretending to be (or rather - What the v1 was a prototype of. A surprisingly well working prototype if i may say so myself...).

These have been designed to handle the hottest diodes available and those we can't even get yet.

I've made some major improovements in the design, for the best possible heat flow out of the diode, to reduce the thermal gradient between the diode and heatsink as much as possible.

The diode now gets stuck directly into the Heatsink/Module, the lens screws in from the top and actually sits better than in any module i have tested so far (way less wobble), and the entire thing closes off completelly - just like from the start, and forms a single thermal mass, and a completelly self contained laser module, when closed.

It was designed to occupy as much room as possible with aluminum mass, and with thermal pathways the first priority above all else..

No more messing with the AixiZ modules, and wasting hours to match them up to heatsinks for the tightest possible fit. The AixiZ module is gone for good. Now, the laser is as good as it gets and ready for the next generations of super diodes (which might just come sooner than expected!).

I had many of these babies made, and it was a big investment, but once i finally held them in my hands, i knew they were perfect. I've been planning these from the start, i drew the plans long ago, but now i finally have my dream modules available for use...

I can't wait to make myself a laser using one of these!
But as usual, i will be the last.. :cryyy:

Jay

Of course Jay! I need your oppinion as well. It's about max-power vs. pretty beam and spot (but a few mW less)...

You already know what my short FL lens would make a beam and the spot look like since you found a lens almost identical in the specs, and now i would love to show you what the medium one makes it look like....

You've probably done everyone a big favor with the lenses you found, cos now more people can compare, and decide. I mean, the decision was just too hard for me to make by myself...

I should have done a test-buy a along time ago, but the splatter was holding me back. So thank you for giving me a "kick start" so to speak... :)

Looks good IgorT, I would like to put 8x Blu-ray in that new host.

You mean "into this new heatsink for the Romisen host"?

I am going to do just that for Franco G. ;)
And if i am lucky maybe even for myself as well.....

They would definitelly be great for the new 150mW Nichia diodes if they turn out to be the real deal...

I might even be possible to persuade me to provide the v3 Heatsink/Module blanks IF there was enough interest (50 = MOQ)....

They are meant to work with my driver, but since the latest FlexDrive has the exact same shape and size as my driver they will work great with both.... ;)

Ha ha... It's been a while! Years I think! Jk...

Just glad to see that your back Igor!
Jay

Jay, i would need a machinist's help for the test-buy...

But something you already did before.. Altho a little more..

Remember shortening the focusing rings from below when you realized they won't let lenses in deep enough for blu-rays?

Well, THAT, but even more....
I would need focusing rings with as little threads left as even possible, but still capable of grabbing onto a plastic lens nut just a little bit. Then i can mount the test buy lenses myself and have them easily focusable...

Let me know if you are willing to help....

Thanks! (and good night)

Absolutely! Let me know and we'll work it out...
Jay

Great! Thank you Jay!

Ok, i need to order stuff from you anyway (your lens and your knurled EZ Focus adaptor), so i'll move this discussion to email and explain exactly what i need in terms of focusing rings.

I hope that you can use your own rings for this, and i send you back mine in tact, to make it go faster.

Ok, email.. Oh wait, sleep!?!

And there goes the night again... :(

But at least i get to start working earlier....

Oh, and just in case someone is still in doubt if i'm back for good, take a look at this.

I wouldn't pay a small fortune for these if i wasn't here to stay... ;)

Oh, the box was too small, i couldn't get all of them in!
