Final Stage: Battle Royale

Hello ALL you patient members !!! Work continues on the Lawgiver ll !!!

I JUST received my PBS this last week....being the last part for the build !!

One of the most difficult challenges has been the wiring. There is ALOT going on....in a VERY small space...and attention to detail is critical !!! ONE loose wire...or one wire touching where it should NOT touch....and POOF !!!

I am very thankful that I have just alittle more time....to manage ALL the details !!! Thanks for that time and your contiued patients !!!

See the linked drawing of the wiring schematic...

As you can see....a real CF of wiring !! OK....not SMD stuff....but still...mmmm....very busy indeed.

It will happen. I am just finishing some optics set-up verifications now...so...soon !!! Very soon !!

Note...I stared at it tooo....and found a mistake !! haha....corrected now with version #3

Thanx !!!

Ill stare at that schematic like I know all about it. Yup looks about right!!

For additional fun....I built with the thought of easy change-out of the drivers. SOooo...to that end....the X-Drivers are thermal epoxied to a small independent Aluminum plate....which is then bolted to the upper roof of the component box. The plate also has three (3) terminal strips attached: Two stirips @ 4 ...and one strip @ 5. All contacts are used for wiring organization !!

I have another plate the same size....which will be used with the new drives are ready. Delays, Delays...Details, Details...they never end !!!

Thanx again !!

A few pics showing the Drivers, Diver mount plate,Terminals and LD wiring. The wires look alittle long....but better that way. Solid connections and no strain. As previously noted...Details, Details !!

Note...WHEN the Lawgiver ll FINALLY pumps out a Phury of Photons...This is what will be heard accross the land !!! ===> ( From " Marvin the Martian )

Just looking @ drivers for myself, would this work?
5A Constant Current and Constant Voltage LED Driver Battery Charging Module | eBay
Best of luck to CD and Jimmy, i cannot wait to see the final products of your hard work!

I dunno ?? I have had day job to concentrate on the last 2 weeks !!! And traveling too!!! I am really taking my time !!! I have the Lawgiver II optics set up...and have figured out wire routing !!! DETAILS, DETAILS !!!

The Beam is BEAUTIFUL....just a real beauty at this intensity !!! When you see that Cherry/Red (650nm) at higher power...it really is a beautiful color !!!

For a single beam...the geometry at a 40' farfield presents close to a square...just a little bit of a rectangle. When one beam is combined with another...the result a a " FAT PLUS SIGN " ... very fat !!! Like a square....with four (4) very small arms/extensions on each of the four (4) sides...A happy coincidence though because the combined beams deliver a cross !!! !!!!!! Reminds me of the "Red Cross" Logo !!! Such a geometry is as close as one can get with a multi-emitter LD source !! Not a circle...but an excellent
approximation !!!

Now...as to the drivers !!! I am using two " temporary"drivers supplied by Lazereer !!! He is working on the higher power versions...but for now...IIRC...these have an output of 2.85A each.
I will wait for his latest HP driver !!! The way I figure it....at the cost of these LD beauties....why risk ANYTHING else !!! Angelos is somewhat the " OEM" for the C-Mounts !!! Who better to design and supply the engine that drives them !!! It is about a good, stable driver with Soft start to protect the LD investment !!!

I picked up a really great deal on Ebay for a Sciencetech 362 Power meter...goes up to 10W. I measured each beam at 2.1W....and combined I am getting 4W out the front door !!!....with the current drivers. The Temp. monitor has not been used yet...but...the C-Mounts are tight against the massive Copper bar....and ALL remains
totally cool...for say 3min operations....and this is WITHOUT the Heat Pipe cooler installed. We will see !!! Too soon to tell !!

I will add some pics later today !!

I would have developed/be developing a 5A driver right now IF I had won the contest, which I did not. It will
happen eventually, but as of right now it's on the back burner. It was to be a nice switchmode driver with
plenty of modes. With nothing to power with it there is just no incentive.

Looking for a driver that can do 4000ma, well I have never pushed one of these to the max but they are supposed to be able to output 4 amps.

I have used the P3 driver B4...AND IT WORKS GREAT !!!!! It is a trusted driver over at PL. While TOO big for your typical HH....it would be NO problem for the Lawgiver II.....That said....

I will still wait for the Lazereer Unit. Angelos has a great working knowledge of the nature of this C-Mount...and C-Mounts in general...Especially concerning the area of internal Soft Start. AND...I feel that when pushing these units at higher powers....like 4.25A....it would be WISE to provide the C-Mount the MOST... mmmm ??? " C-Mount-friendly " driver properties.

My bet remains on the Angelos driver specifically designed with these C-Mount units in mind. I will wait !! Christmas is comming !!! HO HO HO !! I have used a construction practice that makes use of an Aluminum sub-plate....which is in turn...is bolted to roof of the Lawgiver II Component Box. ...." Easy off-Easy on " principle!! It will be easy to change-out drivers !!

SOOooo...standby...we are on the final stretch !!! Depending on what Angelos recommends....I MAY be able to drive these @ 4.25A each...whenever the latest generation C-mount driver is available....And considering loss for optics....punch out somewhere in the 7W range. That is my goal....and ....possibly... for a short time....be " King of the Hill " at the 650nm line.

I got in 2- flexmod p3 and could not get them to go over 2.2A with a big heat sink on them.

Just blew a 5w diode trying this 5a driver eBay item number: 221311638895 it work good on my 5w 808 diode got to around 2a batteries got low and it blew I hope my loss will help some one !
