FBI alert on good morning america green laser

Just expect some form of laser safety enforcement
to go over to Homeland. It is a collision course at
this point. This now an issue of both airspace safety
and securing the border.

All this because of some immature folks who can't handle themselves and think bothering people with lasers is

THE GREATEST THING EVER....

Good morning America! Why can't they stick to fun seasonal cat sweaters and romantic breakfast meals to spice up your love life... Hands off my lasers... These colors don't run! Because the wavelength is coherent

Haha, yep. Remember when lasers used to cost a fortune? Now they are everywhere :undecided:

Good to see more are realizing how bad this has become..
I have been flammed for being too harsh with those that get my attention when posting immature questions at LPF,..

One indicator is a post with a question about the power needed to do some things i see as bad signs-- One that caught my eye recently was about a member wanting to damage a neighbors security cameras because he had the nerve to point it in the direction of the OPs home(who just moved in BTW)
The camera was there when he moved in and he should be thanking the nieghbor..

........another wanted advice on which laser to buy with his goal to be killing red-light cameras-or to turn off streetlights equipped with a photo sensor that turns the lights off at daybreak.. another wanted to know which laser would break a window-- -its not a big stretch of our imagination to go from these uses to ones regarding aircraft. Likewise with those obsessed with burning things .

. one person I know asked me to sell him a laser that would ignite fireworks from a distance in a way the no-one would know where the beam came from- it took some persistent asking but he finally admitted that he had neighbors who liked to walk up and down the dead-end street at night where he lives and that activity upsets his seven dogs-so they bark-- -so its a noise thing?? what about the noise the fireworks would make= what if someone thought it was gunfire- '911 whats your emergency?? ' so law enforcement gets called and maybe there re REALLY needed elsewhere.

guess he thought the fireworks would deter them-- duh! He owns a green pointer and told me he shines it into the face of people driving down 'his' dead end street that he 'thinks' do not live there- I told him he will in time get into deep trouble over such things and may need to rethink all of this.

this has become a 'damned if you do , damned if you don't' situation..

Truth is, some people will never be mature enough to own a laser.

Being 'proactive' at this point in time may be of very little help. but I will not let that stop me from doing ALL I can.

What we CAN do that should help(a little) is refusing to answer forum questions that indicate an immature attitude- We can require proof of age and of ownership of proper eye ware.

maybe the TSA could spare a few from making small children remove their shoes and put them on duty watching the runways- fixed security cameras could tell immeadetly when ANY lasers are seen near the airports and the recorded images would make excellent proof in court.

Also it can easily be a requirement to join LPF that the location be added to ALL personal profiles- these can be compared with IP to see who is being dishonest about their location which should be a BIG red flag- if they are liars we do really want them here?? >>IHMO. NO we do not.

^^^ I agree completely with Hakzaw. Especially the points on:

1) Completely ignoring questions with malicious or even questionable intent.

2) Requiring proof of safety gear before selling (not only for their personal safety, but also because someone who is only interested in shining their lasers at neighbors/airplanes/cars/safety cameras/etc. is not going to spend $40 on a good pair of safety glasses.)

3) Although I am still almost a year shy of 18, I think that members should refuse to sell to minors. Yes, you might be mature, safety conscious, responsible, and the whole nine yards - but you would be the exception. For the good of the hobby, I'd rather that the responsible kids have to wait a few years than the irresponsible ones get lasers - and possibly ruin the hobby for good.

Also, this requires more than just a line at the end of your post that says "By purchasing this product you are agreeing that you are over 18" - actually check. My job is to attempt to buy restricted products - I can tell you that every person who has sold to me and tried to claim "by purchasing this product he was implying that he was of age" has a citation right now.

Please, do everything you can to keep this hobby going. We don't want to end up like Australia.

I completely agree! There are in fact way to many immature lasers users out there, and maybe an age requirement would be perfect!

This is a mature community and seeing 10 years old posting threads like:

I GOT THIS LAZER!! HELP WILL IT KILL OR BURN

Another Example:

HEY I JOINED BECAUSE I LOVE LAZER AND I WANTZ ONE THAT BURNS

I swear, that gets me irritated.

TY for the 'agrees'

sorry -it was rather rant-ish.

Wish I knew what we could do that
would make the biggest difference on
how this plays out.

-whats the best use of our energies and personal resources.. I know when have some great minds here at LPF -
If you have a suggestion and would rather PM me please do. --

OR--could 'we' get thrown under the bus?-

Can't hurt to ..
Write to your reps. and members of congress.

"Rules and Stickies" is at the top of the LPF home page but the "Safety & Legal Issues" section can't be seen without scrolling down. Maybe it's time to bump Safety&Legal to the top above the Welcome thread.

A banner like others have suggested might also be the way to go, colorful bold letters stating some of the most important universal laser rules like "Never Point a Laser at any Aircraft, Vehicle or Living Being." Some idiots just don't think about things that should be obvious.

One idea from Rob-'phoenix77' -more vets should greet incoming members- we could make a list and share that work so each new member gets a greet- a freind request and a Vet to be 'big brother' - let them know its OK to ask questions. Invite them to send them to you- If every newcomer (a nicer term than any of the others IMO) has a 'sponsor' we can steer them away form the foolish acts that many really dont know are all that bad- peer pressure to do the stoopid needs to be negated by a vet member explaining WHY we all must do what it takes to make us accepted as the alternative is a bad choice. All new members should be sent even more links to the most important lesson there is on LASERS- ' Do no harm to the hobby' that pretty much covers everything-- When we read a thread started by a member who needs help understanding why what they seek to do is all wrong we need to handle that member with great care-- If we come on too strong we wil not get the desired results.. I think this is best handled in PMs- I, will not longer critisize newcomers in the open forum-

any other energy should be spent on diverting then blame of terrorists on us and work towards a compromise-as they will not go away-SOMETHING WILL CHANGE-

FYI Running for a seat in the Senate and is Pro Laser ownership is Charles Maricle phd- Owner of AixiZ in Houston- TX-

It's perhaps time for an LPF banner!

Every village has one but we'd always benefit by reminders against temptation.

Can Dr Maricle come up with a better mantra than Heston's for the NRA? :shhh:

I hope so- we are co-dependant with AixiZ-- so anything thats hurts one hurts the other. IRRC ChucK is pro-gun ownership too. He is a Captain in the Coast Guard and a vet. You can find Charles Maricle at FaceBook and friend him show your support--

he would serve us and Texas very well--

you can also support AixiZ with orders for supplies from Houston and not from china just to save a few pennies- try to get replacements or customer support from O-like-- you will say 'I no like o-like-'

They ATM have the best price on 26mw 515 nm modules ready to power up=3vdc to 4 vdc- sweet beam profile and very nice color only 85$ call your order in and mention both the forum and Len and you might get free shipping--1-888 4 AIXIZ 1 toll free.

I just think it's funny how they're only focusing on green lasers, when if you search "burning laser" on youtube, most of the results will turn up blue. Any visible wavelength can glare up a pilot's cockpit, but they only focus on the brightest, rather than the strongest.

"SAFETY FIRST, LAST AND ALWAYS"

Not a bad motto;)

There's a good reason for that. Human vision is most sensitive to light in the green/yellow range and green lasers are cheap enough to buy for any numbnut.
