Favorite Laser and Dream Laser

My favorite laser would be my 30mW kaleidescope green. My dream laser would be a 1W blue ray laser.

Favorite? The 1W lab unit that's coming...

Dream? I high-powered 556nm unit.

I bet that CNI -could- make a 488nm PGL or pen.
I Agree I would love to see that

Mi favorite laser is mi-----473nm 10mW LSR473NL series blue laser module

Mi dream laser is a Novalux Protera DPSS - 488nm 5mW or any at that wavelength (488nm)

Why not build a 490nm using the IR from a 980nm pump diode through a frequency-doubling crystal (KTi0P04).

980/2 = 490 :shhh:

Fav. laser = Daguin build 190mW bluray
Drm. laser = 200mW 593nm: DPSS CW Yellow Laser, 593nm

ok Im lost can you give me some more info on how to do that
Where do i get a frequency-doubling crystal from

Try VLOC or CASIX. Google 'em.. both excellent companies. Also search ebay with their chemical names:

KTP: typically used for green lasers only.

LBO: Much broader range of possible wavelengths, including green. Very temp. sensitive.

Those are the most common and least expensive..

@Ash: That's direct doubling. It's very possible, the Coherent Sapphire @ 488nm is an example IIRC, but to do it requires some serious extra doodads to maintain its stability. Not likely to see a hobbyist accomplish the feat. If a hobbyist were to get doubled output as simply as shining the diode at the crystal, the beam specs would be crap..

Granted. But, I thought I would give it a shot in my spare time. Got some extra KTPs from dead greenies.

My favorite laser is my 50mW CNI 473nm labby. It actually produces over 100mW of beautiful sky-blue light.

My dream laser would be a Coherent Verdi. Ring Cavity IIRC, 532nm, top notch beam specs and stability. But it's about $xx,xxx out of my price range.

Think more in the $$$$$$ range

My favourite is my 150mW pocket greenie from O-like

My dream laser is a white fusion kit with high powered 473 instead of 405 :D

My favorite is my green portable, my dream will soon come true, a 2.4 Watt 808nm Diode laser from o-like. I like power. :)

there are hundreds of them witch one would i use to make 490nm

My fav is my 50mW 473nm olike labby

My dream laser would be a multi watt 473nm laser

Hundreds? I think not. :tinfoil:

You are looking for a nonlinear optic crystal that has high efficiency and second harmonic generation properties. AFAIK KTiOPO4 (KTP) is one of the best options for this, with a very high melting point (1172 oC) and high optic efficiency, it would be my first choice.

But hey, WTF do I know?

lol:p

KTP sucks below 500nm.. LBO or maybe LiNBO3 or KNBO3 should be more suited. They're very temperature dependent, though, which introduces a lot of extra complexity if you're looking for anything usable in terms of a beam.

And Ben........... I'm better looking than you:na:
