dx true 5

I am now in trouble with the wife cause i ordered more of these 5mW units on steroids

The wife still bothering you?

Let me be of help...

jnrpop;

The IR diode voltage is much lower.

The rest of the voltage is dropped accross the driver.

Probably about 1.5-1.6 VDC. The rest of the voltage is dropped accross the driver.

So, power #1 is ~ (1.5 x 0.37) or 550mw.

So, power #2 is ~ (1.5 x 0.32) or 480mw.

Are no worries, yer didn think it would be 1w, still 500mw pump diode, which can still pump higher because its only pumping 50mw 532nm out, think these modules can go a little higher!
Thanks LarryDFW

Remember that these are case positive so when you amp check make sure the probes are in the right orientation.

Oh! I see this has been coverd...Sorry

Im not sure about the 500mw pump diode, i never found diode with a power more than 300mw in 5.6 mm package. Im sure that's 300mw one same as susie one, current is 370mA, efficiency of 808@532 nm can go as high as 50/60%.

It seems this batch of DX true 5mW greenies are using the same 250mW IR pump diode and driver as the DX true 50mW greenies.

update my sons pot modded unit still at 45ish mw
and the one i kept still at 70 mw i'll use the heck out of it to see if it breaks lol
also no reports of failures from the other 20-25 i got for friends

I bought one of these last week for review & research.

It may not make manufacturing/economic sense to have a separate design for each power level, and given how finicky DPSS lasers are, I suspect that these may actually be higher-power units that could not pass QC (crystal alignment problems, etc.) at full strength.

The dramatic increases obtained above also suggests that these may have originally been fairly high-power units!

It would therefore be useful to know what power levels these were actually designed for.

Hey, those of you who have bought mass qualities of these - have you considered sacrificing one of these guys for science / LPF?

I think it would be very interesting to know -

1) Current draw and voltage drop across the Laser Diode itself (i.e. - at the diode end, not the battery), both before and after pot-mod (as that would give us the start of a rough graph for the IR diode). If you can only measure it once, then probably better AFTER pot mod, so we can see what these babies can do!

2) Dissect it, and get some good macro shots of the Laser Diode itself, and any identifying marks on it. Perhaps someone here can identify it, or at least get a rough idea of the power level of the IR diode being used!

(BTW, my order has been stuck on "In Stock" status for 6 days now! :( I can understand if they have to wait on shipment from the manufacturer, but if they already have them on-hand, then what's the hold-up???)

Also, obviously, if you operate it with the laser diode exposed, take care about IR radiation!

My True 5 finally switched to "Packaging"!

Woo-hoo! :D

My DX green module, unfortunately, is still "Waiting on Supplier".

True 5 Back In Stock, and FINALLY shipped!!! :yh:

They CLAIMED was in stock and would ship in 1-3 days...

But actually took as long for them just to get around to shipping it, as a normal order takes to GET HERE from other companies in China!

Anxious to see how the beam compares to my 10mw greenie. And as I ALREADY have a greenie pen, I can take this under the knife (or screwdriver), and see what makes it tick!
