dx true 5

Ive never had the luck with that. I would order say 6 pcs of a certain pentype. It would arrive 5 weeks later, id rip them all down and find that I could make decent labbys with them at 50mW when they were rated for 10-20mW (methods witheld). I thought great, then knowing they were good, id order 15 more... I was lucky to get 10mW out of the best one in the second batch! By the time the second batch was shipped, they had already changed :toilet:

All im saying is I wouldnt personally buy 30 more unless you have use for 30 5-10mW pens / modules.. I hate surprises.
 





yea i ordered 30, 22 are gone i broke one on disassebly lol
put one in my son's aries have 6 left 4 are already asked for
but yea they will definately change again as usual - and no they are not filtered either

so far niko none have died my son Justin uses his alot the other 22 or so units were at least already 30-65 mw straight from dx no-one has told me thiers has died yet -45-60 days at least now

and dang thats a cute baby wannaburn

Thanks John, shes our first. We figured it was about time to start, just cant believe how fast it all happened. Really puts life in perspective, shes a month old and really has quite the personaltiy already. Cant wait to get her first soldering iron and diode kit wrapped up for a future Christmas :)


So how is your ratio of good batches to bad from DX? Also you mention no IR filter, they also lack the APC right? Ive got those diodes up to 400mW before cooking them, I doubt youll see any deaths from the pot modding. Its those newish modules I hate dealing with, I must have 50 of those modules in pieces in a box somewhere...
 
John could post on current #'s and settle the 200mW at 250mA on the Dx 200mW thread...
 
well i guess i could but have never checked current any suggestions
and no i am not reading the stickies lol
 
use a multimeter, in position ampmeter. Unscrew the barrel, remove the 2 battery. connect the 2 battery to the sping and connect the end of the battery to one wire of the ampmeter, second wire goes to the body of the laser. Push on button, current should appear on ampmeter.

Just ordered a few and hopefully get a few nice big resistors on them, can only hope!! haha. An interesting fact i ordered couple of 50mw from susie, at 3.4v one draws 370ma and the other draws 320ma, cant check output atm but would this mean the pump diode is pumping 1w into the crystals, i doubt it but using math P=V I , (3.4v x 0.370A = 1.2W)

1W? You should ask Susie if they really are equipped with a 1W diode, that's just too much :S
 
ok i think i did it correctly it showed 172 ma at 70 mw i have no more un modded to compare with now

The IR diode voltage is much lower.

The rest of the voltage is dropped accross the driver.

Probably about 1.5-1.6 VDC. The rest of the voltage is dropped accross the driver.

So, power #1 is ~ (1.5 x 0.37) or 550mw.

So, power #2 is ~ (1.5 x 0.32) or 480mw.

170 mA pot modded? the current is very good. I fried a diode of the same type at 300mA (senkat one).
Let's wait for a one which is not potmoded. I guess it will be around 130mA.
 
Ok, I bought three of these true 5mW DX. All tests were made with my lab supply set to 3.2 VDC. All combined IR/green measurments were made right at the aperature, and all green beam power measurements were made from 2 feet away to avoid readings being affected by IR.

First, I opened my true 50mW DX that outputs 85 mW of combined IR/green, and 62 mW of green. The current was measured at 299 mA. This unit has the large resistor on the bottom of the driver board.

The lowest power unit out of the three true 5 mW units measured at about 16 mW of combined IR/green, and 5 mW of green at 2 feet away. Current was measures at 170 mA. Adjusting applied voltage a few tenths of a volt either way had absolutely no effect on current draw or output power. The current regulated driver worked as it should. And there is a large resistor on the driver board. I adjusted the pot on that units driver board until measured current was 299 mA. Output power measured was now 85.5 mW of combined IR/green, and 36 mW of green from 2 feet away. There is obviously a crystal alignment or crystal quality issue with that unit.

The other two true 5 mW units have not yet been opened or adjusted. One of those measured at 22 mW of green, and the other measured at 30 mW of green. I did not try to measure the combined IR/green. I did push the white fiber pad around the spring aside a little bit to see if these have the large resistor. Both of them have it.

So these were great little greenies for a great price.

Oh, and while I was at it, I tested a supposedly 50 mW module from o-like, measured output was 29 mW of green.
