My curiosity has hit me again...

Do the members on LPF enjoy the "rep system" and why?

Let me know below.

The rep system means absolutely nothing to me.

I don't dislike it, nor do I like it.

__

I judge character based on the content they post.

Just as some people with high rep deserve it, other people can have high rep and be the biggest a$$holes out there or just be completely incompetent; and people can have low rep just trying to get by, or people can have low rep because they're idiots.

Well I feel like the rep system is nice for me to be able to give more than just written praise for cool actions.

It is also a nice way to chide people in the hopes that they will stop being bad. Lol

All in all though the rep stuff is fairly arbitrary.

Be dumb.
Get red.

Be not dumb.
Get green.

Be equally dumb and not dumb.
Get confused.

Yes, cause it reflects your contribution to the forum :tinfoil:

Just out of curiosity too. Is this because you have been receiving red bars so many times?

No. I am just curious.

I have come to accept I don't know as much as I thought as I knew and I deserved those bars, simple.

Yes because as DJNY said, it reflects your post content or how well you can answer questions.

IMO post count is stupid. I've received crap from people since I have over 4,000 posts in a year. Well call it what you want but sorry I was a college student and had ample time to learn fast here and then didnt have a job over the summer so have helped many members with questions.

The one thing I wish this forum had was a time online tracker. That would show people how dedicated (how much you dont have a life) to this forum. In the last year I've probably spent a good 2 months online here (1400 hours)

Can't agree more with you Zraffle.

It's the content of peoples post and their intention to contribute in a positive way.

I am indifferent to the rep system.
Whilst it is helpful at gauging whether a person is sketchy or not (if they receive neg rep), some people with neg rep may not even deserve it.
Members with high rep generally deserve it whilst some people with high rep may be complete dickh:)ds.

Haha. Or if they kept a count of the number of times you have refreshed your UserCP I would be at the top of the charts lol. At night when I am bored I refresh every 5 minutes.

[ /confession]

Man five min. Is that a short amount of time??? Uhhhh I'm not going to embarrass myself...

User con, new post, user con, new post .

I'd be at the top of the "new post refreshed" chart. I swear there are times I do it every 15 seconds and dont realize im doing it until I get frustrated and think WTF, why is no one posting!!!!! Oh maybe since its 3am and ive only let 1 minute pass ***confessions of a LPF addict***

Haha just thought of a great new thread :)
