So first off fuck yes.
And some interesting news.
I broke the window on my 635nm diode.
So i had to take it out of the aixiz housing and de can.
Well after hours of work i got it out and working.
Im getting a bit more power but not by much.
Also some good news.

It was close to death but i never stop trying!!!
EDITED OUT NOT NEEDED DATA

^According to the laws of physics, 1A with one wire is the same number of electrons/second as 1A with 7000 wires. The only advantage you'd get is less heating in the wire(s).

yes but you could push more than 1A for longer threw 2 wires than you could threw 1.
Given you cool the emitter the wires can still degrade due to over current.
So that might be the cause of death on these diodes.
Im almost interested to cool the diode to 15C and keep turning up the current and see what point fails first.
I have a feeling the wires will go before the emitter.
What do you guys think?

Edit: Read your post wrong. You meant there is 2 wires running from each pin so a total of 4.:)

It for sure is not the same die. The 500mW one is wider. it has worse beam spec's as well. Not much but it does. THe 300mW is very think

Here is a Picture of the 500mW diode if it helps.

laseerer you sure?
The people i talked to told me theirs were just the same as the 300mw versions.
I wonder what those wires are rated at.
Well i think im going to crank this diode up to 850ma and see what kind of power i get.
thinking of buying a de canning tool.

Wire doesn't degrade - especially gold wire.

In theory, yes. But I've put 2A through the 300mW diodes. If the wires didn't fail at 2A, they won't fail at 1A. Double the current is quadruple the heat.

It doesn't matter if the wires fail at 3A or 4A or 60A. Anything over 1A, and the power drops anyway, so there's no point. Adding more bond wires would be like re-wiring your house with 2awg and expecting some sort of performance increase from your appliances. That's simply not where the bottleneck is.

Cyparagon that is interesting.
Well i did kinda forget they were gold.
Well im glad to be wrong.
Im just caught wind that rayfoss has the 500mw so when i get some cash im going to get the 500mw diode and de can them.

Where did you hear they have them?
I just spoke to Rayfoss the other day they said by end of Feburary beging of March if they don't push the date back again.:yabbmad:

Also the 500mW is already an open can diode so no need to crack it open.

Went back and did some reading yeah i must have read wrong or my memory is going... ohh well still cool pics ill edit the op later.
steve-o from PL posted this link

So i sent them a message.
i hope they have them in stock, when they do im going to grab up as many as my pockets can afford.
I just got finished building my base plate and found a way to build a 4 diode setup that all shares 1 set of correction optics.
At the same distance perfectly.
To get a final beam of around 4.5mm wide by 4mm tall with under 0.9mRad.

this is a bit off topic, but as y'all were talking about it, why would one want, or need to de-can their diode?

"Most" often this is done because the diode window has been broken or knocked loose

Peace,
dave

why not just remove the window or what remains of it? or do you need to de-can to eliminate the window fragments?

If you start pushing the pieces around in there, you run the very real risk of breaking the tiny wires connected to the die

Peace,
dave
